制定不义律例、起草不公法令的人啊，你们有祸了！

那些制定奸恶律例的，和那些记录诡诈判语的，有祸了！

祸哉！那些制定邪恶律例、记录不义判决的！

制定不義律例、起草不公法令的人啊，你們有禍了！

禍哉！那些制定邪惡律例、記錄不義判決的！

立不義之律、錄乖戾之詞、

立法嚴酷、載之典章、虐遇其民、其有禍乎。

立不善之法度、錄不義之判語、

Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,

How terrible it will be for you who make laws that aren’t fair! How terrible for you who write laws that make life hard for others!

Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression,

What sorrow awaits the unjust judges and those who issue unfair laws.

Woe to those enacting crooked statutes and writing oppressive laws

“ Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, Who write misfortune, Which they have prescribed

Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers that write perverseness;

Woe to those enacting crooked statutes and writing oppressive laws

Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness[ which] they have prescribed;

Those who enact unjust policies are as good as dead, those who are always instituting unfair regulations,

Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees;

Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves did not enter, and you hindered those who were entering.”

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.

“ But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithes of mint, rue, and every kind of garden herb, and yet you ignore justice and the love of God; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the seat of honor in the synagogues and personal greetings in the marketplaces.Woe to you! For you are like unseen tombs, and the people who walk over them are unaware of it.”

Woe to those who attach house to house and join field to field, Until there is no more room, And you alone are a landowner in the midst of the land!

And I said,“ Hear now, you leaders of Jacob And rulers of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know justice?You who hate good and love evil, Who tear off their skin from them And their flesh from their bones,Who eat the flesh of my people, Strip off their skin from them, Smash their bones, And chop them up as for the pot, And as meat in a cauldron!”Then they will cry out to the Lord, But He will not answer them. Instead, He will hide His face from them at that time Because they have practiced evil deeds.

“ Will all of these not take up a song of ridicule against him, Even a saying and insinuations against him And say,‘ Woe to him who increases what is not his— For how long— And makes himself rich with debts!’

Can a throne of destruction be allied with You, One which devises mischief by decree?They band themselves together against the life of the righteous And condemn the innocent to death.

“ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of heaven in front of people; for you do not enter it yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

But He said,“ Woe to you lawyers as well! For you load people with burdens that are hard to bear, while you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers.Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight!Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine, And valiant men in mixing intoxicating drink,

The statutes of Omri And every work of the house of Ahab are maintained, And you walk by their plans. Therefore I will give you up for destruction, And your inhabitants for derision, And you will suffer the taunting of My people.”

Woe to those who drag wrongdoing with the cords of deceit, And sin as if with cart ropes;

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,

“ Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness, And his upstairs rooms without justice, Who uses his neighbor’s services without pay And does not give him his wages,

“ Woe to him who makes evil profit for his household, To put his nest on high, To be saved from the hand of catastrophe!

Now hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob And rulers of the house of Israel, Who despise justice And twist everything that is straight,Who build Zion with bloodshed, And Jerusalem with malice.Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the Lord, saying,“ Is the Lord not in our midst? Catastrophe will not come upon us.”

Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document so that it will not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be revoked.”Thereupon, King Darius signed the document, that is, the injunction.

No, in heart you practice injustice; On earth you clear a way for the violence of your hands.

Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have given themselves up to the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Woe to those who rise early in the morning so that they may pursue intoxicating drink, Who stay up late in the evening so that wine may inflame them!
