爾屢增悖逆、尚有何處可擊、首皆已痛、心悉已憊、

Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted.

I have struck down your children in vain; they would not accept discipline. Your own sword has devoured your prophets like a ravaging lion.

Our kings, leaders, priests, and ancestors did not obey your law or listen to your commands and warnings you gave them.

For what son is there that a father does not discipline?But if you are without discipline— which all receive— then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
