Oh, what a sinful nation they are— loaded down with a burden of guilt. They are evil people, corrupt children who have rejected the Lord. They have despised the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him.

嗐！犯罪的国，罪孽深重的子民，行恶的子孙，败坏的儿女！他们离弃了耶和华，藐视以色列的圣者，他们转离了他。

祸哉！有罪的国，罪孽深重的民，作恶者的后裔，败坏的儿女！他们离弃耶和华，藐视以色列的圣者，转背远离他。

嗐！犯罪的國，罪孽沉重的人民，作壞事的種，敗壞的兒女！他們離棄了永恆主，藐視以色列之聖者，跟他疏遠。

禍哉！有罪的國，罪孽深重的民，作惡者的後裔，敗壞的兒女！他們離棄耶和華，藐視以色列的聖者，轉背遠離他。

噫、干罪之邦、負咎之民、作惡之輩、妄行之子、離棄耶和華、輕視以色列之聖者、疏而遠之、

我耶和華為以色列族之聖主、斯民侮予、棄予逆予、風俗澆漓、陷於罪戾、入於邪僻、豈不哀哉。

禍哉、造孽之國、負罪之民、行惡之種、敗壞之子、違棄主、侮以色列之聖者、背主而退、

Woe to the sinful nation, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the Lord; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him.

Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the Lord, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged.

Oh sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, brood of evildoers, depraved children! They have abandoned the LORD; they have despised the Holy One of Israel; they have turned their backs on him.

Oh, sinful nation, People weighed down with guilt, Offspring of evildoers, Sons who act corruptly! They have abandoned the Lord, They have despised the Holy One of Israel, They have turned away from Him.

Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the Lord, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward.

Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil- doers, children that deal corruptly! they have forsaken Jehovah, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are estranged and gone backward.

Oh sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, brood of evildoers, depraved children! They have abandoned the Lord; they have despised the Holy One of Israel; they have turned their backs on Him.

Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

The sinful nation is as good as dead, the people weighed down by evil deeds. They are offspring who do wrong, children who do wicked things. They have abandoned the LORD, and rejected the Holy One of Israel. They are alienated from him.

Ah sinful nation, a people loaded with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken Yahweh. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They are estranged and backward.

Therefore, just as fire licks up stubble and dry grass shrivels in the flame, so their roots will rot and their flowers wither. For they have rejected the law of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies; they have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

And you have brought this upon yourselves by rebelling against the Lord your God, even though he was leading you on the way!

“ For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me— the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!

Am I the one they are hurting?” asks the Lord.“ Most of all, they hurt themselves, to their own shame.”

But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them.“ You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed.“ Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

They even mock God and say,“ Hurry up and do something! We want to see what you can do. Let the Holy One of Israel carry out his plan, for we want to know what it is.”

Though you are a lowly worm, O Jacob, don’t be afraid, people of Israel, for I will help you. I am the Lord, your Redeemer. I am the Holy One of Israel.’

You will not be given a proper burial, for you have destroyed your nation and slaughtered your people. The descendants of such an evil person will never again receive honor.

This is what the Lord says:“ What did your ancestors find wrong with me that led them to stray so far from me? They worshiped worthless idols, only to become worthless themselves.

Then Jesus said,“ Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

The Lord said to Moses,“ You are about to die and join your ancestors. After you are gone, these people will begin to worship foreign gods, the gods of the land where they are going. They will abandon me and break my covenant that I have made with them.

“ Then you will give them the Lord’s reply:‘ It is because your ancestors were unfaithful to me. They worshiped other gods and served them. They abandoned me and did not obey my word.And you are even worse than your ancestors! You stubbornly follow your own evil desires and refuse to listen to me.

Finally, they cried out to the Lord for help, saying,“ We have sinned against you because we have abandoned you as our God and have served the images of Baal.”

Yes, our protection comes from the Lord, and he, the Holy One of Israel, has given us our king.

All day long they insult me to my face by worshiping idols in their sacred gardens. They burn incense on pagan altars.

What? Do we dare to rouse the Lord’s jealousy? Do you think we are stronger than he is?

Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?

“ And the answer will be,‘ This happened because the people of the land abandoned the covenant that the Lord, the God of their ancestors, made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

“ Whom have you been defying and ridiculing? Against whom did you raise your voice? At whom did you look with such haughty eyes? It was the Holy One of Israel!

The humble will be filled with fresh joy from the Lord. The poor will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

These wicked people are born sinners; even from birth they have lied and gone their own way.

“ Send out a call for archers to come to Babylon. Surround the city so none can escape. Do to her as she has done to others, for she has defied the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:“ Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.

Your wickedness will bring its own punishment. Your turning from me will shame you. You will see what an evil, bitter thing it is to abandon the Lord your God and not to fear him. I, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!

Prostitutes charge for their services— but not you! You give gifts to your lovers, bribing them to come and have sex with you.

Oh, how often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved his heart in that dry wasteland.

Let all the people of Jerusalem shout his praise with joy! For great is the Holy One of Israel who lives among you.”

“ How you plot and scheme to win your lovers. Even an experienced prostitute could learn from you!

But my people have not listened to me or even tried to hear. They have been stubborn and sinful— even worse than their ancestors.

I am doing this so all who see this miracle will understand what it means— that it is the Lord who has done this, the Holy One of Israel who created it.

But here you are, a brood of sinners, doing exactly the same thing! You are making the Lord even angrier with Israel.

“ The Lord saw this and drew back, provoked to anger by his own sons and daughters.

Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.

For the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has not abandoned Israel and Judah. He is still their God, even though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.”

You will toss them into the air, and the wind will blow them all away; a whirlwind will scatter them. Then you will rejoice in the Lord. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.

I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church.

For Jerusalem will stumble, and Judah will fall, because they speak out against the Lord and refuse to obey him. They provoke him to his face.

Forget all this gloom. Get off your narrow path. Stop telling us about your‘ Holy One of Israel.’”This is the reply of the Holy One of Israel:“ Because you despise what I tell you and trust instead in oppression and lies,

Your leaders are rebels, the companions of thieves. All of them love bribes and demand payoffs, but they refuse to defend the cause of orphans or fight for the rights of widows.

For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.

But the people of this area were extremely wicked and constantly sinned against the Lord.

“ But you— come here, you witches’ children, you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes!Whom do you mock, making faces and sticking out your tongues? You children of sinners and liars!

I am sending Assyria against a godless nation, against a people with whom I am angry. Assyria will plunder them, trampling them like dirt beneath its feet.

that these people are stubborn rebels who refuse to pay attention to the Lord’s instructions.

“ O my people, listen to the words of the Lord! Have I been like a desert to Israel? Have I been to them a land of darkness? Why then do my people say,‘ At last we are free from God! We don’t need him anymore!’

“ You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you!Name one prophet your ancestors didn’t persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One— the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered.

For her sins are piled as high as heaven, and God remembers her evil deeds.
