They will not pour out wine offerings to the Lord, nor will their sacrifices please him. Such sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat them will be unclean. This food will be for themselves; it will not come into the temple of the Lord.

You won’t pour out wine offerings to the Lord. Your sacrifices won’t please him. They’ll be like the bread people eat when someone dies. Everyone who eats those sacrifices will be“ unclean.” They themselves will have to eat that kind of food. They can’t bring it into the Lord’ s temple.

They shall not pour drink offerings of wine to the Lord, and their sacrifices shall not please him. It shall be like mourners’ bread to them; all who eat of it shall be defiled; for their bread shall be for their hunger only; it shall not come to the house of the Lord.

There you will make no offerings of wine to the Lord. None of your sacrifices there will please him. They will be unclean, like food touched by a person in mourning. All who present such sacrifices will be defiled. They may eat this food themselves, but they may not offer it to the Lord.

Though they offer sacrificial gifts and eat the flesh, the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their guilt and punish their sins; they will return to Egypt.

What use to me is frankincense from Sheba or sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please me.

I have not eaten any of it while in mourning, or removed any of it while unclean, or offered any of it for the dead. I have obeyed the LORD my God; I have done all you commanded me.

Groan quietly; do not observe mourning rites for the dead. Put on your turban and strap your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache or eat the bread of mourners.”

For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, and without ephod or household idols.

They are to be holy to their God and not profane the name of their God. For they present the food offerings to the LORD, the food of their God, and they must be holy.

“ And now plead for God’s favor. Will he be gracious to us? Since this has come from your hands, will he show any of you favor?” asks the LORD of Armies.“ I wish one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would no longer kindle a useless fire on my altar! I am not pleased with you,” says the LORD of Armies,“ and I will accept no offering from your hands.

Your portion is among the smooth stones of the wadi; indeed, they are your lot. You have even poured out a drink offering to them; you have offered a grain offering; should I be satisfied with these?

Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind him, so you can offer a grain offering and a drink offering to the LORD your God.

Then Haggai asked,“ If someone defiled by contact with a corpse touches any of these, does it become defiled?” The priests answered,“ It becomes defiled.”Then Haggai replied,“ So is this people, and so is this nation before me— this is the LORD’s declaration. And so is every work of their hands; even what they offer there is defiled.

No descendant of the priest Aaron who has a defect is to come near to present the food offerings to the LORD. He has a defect and is not to come near to present the food of his God.

You are to consider him holy since he presents the food of your God. He will be holy to you because I, the LORD who sets you apart, am holy.

Come to Bethel and rebel; rebel even more at Gilgal! Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tenths every three days.Offer leavened bread as a thanksgiving sacrifice, and loudly proclaim your freewill offerings, for that is what you Israelites love to do! This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

“ Command the Israelites and say to them: Be sure to present to me at its appointed time my offering and my food as my food offering, a pleasing aroma to me.

“ Tell Aaron: None of your descendants throughout your generations who has a physical defect is to come near to present the food of his God.

Dress in sackcloth and lament, you priests; wail, you ministers of the altar. Come and spend the night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God, because grain and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God.

This is another thing you do. You are covering the LORD’s altar with tears, with weeping and groaning, because he no longer respects your offerings or receives them gladly from your hands.

Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them,“ This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the law.Then he said to them,“ Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the LORD is your strength.”And the Levites quieted all the people, saying,“ Be still, since today is holy. Don’t grieve.”Then all the people began to eat and drink, send portions, and have a great celebration, because they had understood the words that were explained to them.

“ What are all your sacrifices to me?” asks the LORD.“ I have had enough of burnt offerings and rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I have no desire for the blood of bulls, lambs, or male goats.When you come to appear before me, who requires this from you— this trampling of my courts?Stop bringing useless offerings. Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons and Sabbaths, and the calling of solemn assemblies— I cannot stand iniquity with a festival.I hate your New Moons and prescribed festivals. They have become a burden to me; I am tired of putting up with them.When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will refuse to look at you; even if you offer countless prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.

He arranged the bread on it before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.

Look, the days are coming— this is the declaration of the Lord GOD— when I will send a famine through the land: not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.People will stagger from sea to sea and roam from north to east seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.

Then you will do just as I have done: You will not cover your mustache or eat the bread of mourners.

For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have appointed it to you to make atonement on the altar for your lives, since it is the lifeblood that makes atonement.

One person slaughters an ox, another kills a person; one person sacrifices a lamb, another breaks a dog’s neck; one person offers a grain offering, another offers pig’s blood; one person offers incense, another praises an idol— all these have chosen their ways and delight in their abhorrent practices.

Even if you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; I will have no regard for your fellowship offerings of fattened cattle.

“ They are to spread a blue cloth over the table of the Presence and place the plates and cups on it, as well as the bowls and pitchers for the drink offering. The regular bread offering is to be on it.

“ The person who touches any human corpse will be unclean for seven days.
