So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.And the rest of the acts of Menahem, and all that he did,[ are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?And Menahem slept with his fathers; and Pekahiah his son reigned in his stead.In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekahiah the son of Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria,[ and reigned] two years.And he did[ that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.But Pekah the son of Remaliah, a captain of his, conspired against him, and smote him in Samaria, in the palace of the king’s house, with Argob and Arieh, and with him fifty men of the Gileadites: and he killed him, and reigned in his room.And the rest of the acts of Pekahiah, and all that he did, behold, they[ are] written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.In the two and fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekah the son of Remaliah began to reign over Israel in Samaria,[ and reigned] twenty years.And he did[ that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abelbethmaachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria.And Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and smote him, and slew him, and reigned in his stead, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.

O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me[ is] thine help.I will be thy king: where[ is any other] that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold,[ which] they prepared for Baal.

Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves[ of] gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all[ ye] workers of iniquity.

I am the good shepherd, and know my[ sheep], and am known of mine.

Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye[ this] great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut[ it] off, and to destroy[ it] from off the face of the earth.
