Foreigners sap his strength, but he does not realize it. His hair is sprinkled with gray, but he does not notice.

People from other lands make them weaker and weaker. But they don’t realize it. Their hair is becoming gray. But they don’t even notice it.

但这些百姓饱受劫掠，都被困在坑中，囚在监内。他们沦为俘虏，无人搭救；被当作战利品掳走，无人追回。你们当中谁肯专心听呢？以后谁肯留心倾听呢？谁把雅各交给了掳掠者，使以色列任人劫掠？难道不是被我们得罪的耶和华吗？他们不肯遵行祂的道，也不听从祂的训诲。所以，祂把烈怒和战火倾倒在他们身上。他们被火包围，却不明白；被烈火焚身，却不在乎。

因此，耶和华向以色列人发怒，屡次使他们败在亚兰王哈薛和他儿子便·哈达手中。约哈斯求耶和华开恩，耶和华看见亚兰王非常残暴地欺压以色列人，便垂听他的祷告，赐给以色列人一位拯救者，从亚兰人手中救了他们。他们便像从前一样安居乐业。但他们一如既往地犯罪，没有离开耶罗波安家使以色列人犯的那些罪，在撒玛利亚仍然保留着亚舍拉神像。亚兰王像践踏尘土一样摧毁了约哈斯的军队。约哈斯只剩下五十名骑兵、十辆战车和一万步兵。
