Ephraim has mixed itself like flour among the nations; Ephraim is like a ruined cake of bread that is scorched on one side.

以法蓮雜於列邦、乃為未翻之餅、

以法蓮譬諸炊餅、不反必致焦灼、

以法蓮雜處雜處或作混入異邦、以法蓮即如不翻之餅、

“ Ephraim mixes with the nations; Ephraim is a flat loaf not turned over.

The people of Ephraim mix with the nations. They are like a thin loaf of bread that is baked on only one side.

Ephraim mixes himself with the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

“ The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, making themselves as worthless as a half baked cake!

Ephraim has allowed himself to get mixed up with the nations. Ephraim is unturned bread baked on a griddle.

Ephraim is himself thrown about with the nations; Ephraim has become a round loaf not turned over.

“ Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake unturned.

Ephraim, he mixeth himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

Ephraim has allowed himself to get mixed up with the nations. Ephraim is unturned bread baked on a griddle.

They mixed in with the nations and learned their ways.

Therefore do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons, and do not take their daughters in marriage for your sons. Do not ever seek their peace or welfare, so that you may be strong and may eat the good of the land and may leave it as an inheritance for your children forever.’

Also in those days I saw the men of Judah who had married women from Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.Half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod( or the language of one of the other peoples mentioned) and were unable to speak the language of Judah.So I entered a complaint with them. I called down a curse on them, and I struck some of the men and pulled out their hair. I had them swear by God saying,“ You will not marry off your daughters to their sons, and you will not take any of their daughters as wives for your sons or for yourselves!

Now when these things had been completed, the leaders approached me and said,“ The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves from the local residents who practice detestable things similar to those of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

Judah has become disloyal, and unspeakable sins have been committed in Israel and Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the holy things that the LORD loves and has turned to a foreign god!

Elijah approached all the people and said,“ How long are you going to be paralyzed by indecision? If the LORD is the true God, then follow him, but if Baal is, follow him!” But the people did not say a word.

When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim turned to Assyria, and begged its great king for help. But he will not be able to heal you! He cannot cure your wound!

I will remove those who worship the stars in the sky from their rooftops, those who swear allegiance to the LORD while taking oaths in the name of their‘ king,’

“ No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

They have committed treason against the LORD, because they bore illegitimate children. Soon the new moon festival will devour them and their fields.

They will not remain in the LORD’s land. Ephraim will return to Egypt; they will eat ritually unclean food in Assyria.

Oholah was the name of the older and Oholibah the name of her younger sister. They became mine, and gave birth to sons and daughters. Oholah is Samaria and Oholibah is Jerusalem.“ Oholah engaged in prostitution while she was mine. She lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians– warriorsclothed in blue, governors and officials, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.She bestowed her sexual favors on them; all of them were the choicest young men of Assyria. She defiled herself with all whom she desired– with all their idols.She did not abandon the prostitution she had practiced in Egypt; for in her youth men had sex with her, fondled her virgin breasts, and ravished her.Therefore I handed her over to her lovers, the Assyrians for whom she lusted.They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and killed her with the sword. She became notorious among women, and they executed judgments against her.“ Her sister Oholibah watched this, but she became more corrupt in her lust than her sister had been, and her acts of prostitution were more numerous than those of her sister.

Israel cries out to me,“ My God, we acknowledge you!”But Israel has rejected what is morally good; so an enemy will pursue him.They enthroned kings without my consent! They appointed princes without my approval! They made idols out of their silver and gold, but they will be destroyed!

‘ I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot!So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth!
