Israel’s arrogance testifies against him, but despite all this he does not return to the Lord his God or search for him.

The pride of Israel proves that they are guilty. But in spite of everything, they don’t return to the Lord their God. They don’t go to him for help.

no one understands; no one seeks for God.

Therefore the showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come; yet you have the forehead of a whore; you refuse to be ashamed.

The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.

Crush a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, yet his folly will not depart from him.

Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.I have paid attention and listened, but they have not spoken rightly; no man relents of his evil, saying,‘ What have I done?’ Everyone turns to his own course, like a horse plunging headlong into battle.

saying,‘ Turn now, every one of you, from his evil way and evil deeds, and dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever.Do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, or provoke me to anger with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.’Yet you have not listened to me, declares the Lord, that you might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.

Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.

“ Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.

All of them are hot as an oven, and they devour their rulers. All their kings have fallen, and none of them calls upon me.

I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them persistently, saying,‘ Turn now every one of you from his evil way, and amend your deeds, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to you and your fathers.’ But you did not incline your ear or listen to me.The sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have kept the command that their father gave them, but this people has not obeyed me.Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing upon Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them and they have not listened, I have called to them and they have not answered.”

In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are,“ There is no God.”

God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
