When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in,[ and] the troop of robbers spoileth without.

我欲醫以色列時、以法蓮之罪、撒瑪利亞之惡顯著、彼詐偽是行、盜賊入於內羣寇刦於外、

主曰、我欲醫以色列族、斯時也、以法蓮撒馬利亞罪惡彰明、彼詭詐攘奪、群盜自外侵伐。

我欲醫以色列時、無奈以法蓮愆尤、撒瑪利亞罪惡彰顯、詭譎是行、賊入室而竊、群盜搶掠於外、

whenever I would heal Israel, the sins of Ephraim are exposed and the crimes of Samaria revealed. They practice deceit, thieves break into houses, bandits rob in the streets;

I would like to heal Israel. But when I try to, Ephraim’s sins are brought out into the open. The crimes of Samaria are made known to everyone. The people tell lies. They break into houses and steal. They rob others in the streets.

O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness[ is] as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.

Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast[ thee] off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long[ will it be] ere they attain to innocency?

That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge[ asketh] for a reward; and the great[ man], he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.The best of them[ is] as a brier: the most upright[ is sharper] than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen[ and] thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies[ are] the men of his own house.Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty[ is] a fading flower, which[ are] on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

And thine elder sister[ is] Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand,[ is] Sodom and her daughters.

Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment[ is] toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,[ thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under[ her] wings, and ye would not!

Gilead[ is] a city of them that work iniquity,[ and is] polluted with blood.And as troops of robbers wait for a man,[ so] the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there[ is] the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.

Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they[ be] all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.And they bend their tongues[ like] their bow[ for] lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies,[ and] weary themselves to commit iniquity.Thine habitation[ is] in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.

We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up[ even] to the skies.

The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof[ that] rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

Ephraim[ is] joined to idols: let him alone.

For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions[ are] with us; and[ as for] our iniquities, we know them;

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen[ doth gather] her brood under[ her] wings, and ye would not!

And the names of them[ were] Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus[ were] their names; Samaria[ is] Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things[ which belong] unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.
