I know all about Ephraim; Israel is not hidden from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution; Israel is corrupt.

I know all about the people of Ephraim. What Israel is doing is not hidden from me. Now they have joined themselves to other gods. They have made themselves‘ unclean.’

I know what you are like, O Ephraim. You cannot hide yourself from me, O Israel. You have left me as a prostitute leaves her husband; you are utterly defiled.

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me. For now, Ephraim, you have acted promiscuously; Israel is defiled.

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me; Because now, Ephraim, you have been unfaithful, Israel has defiled itself.

I know Ephraim, And Israel is not hidden from Me; For now, O Ephraim, you commit harlotry; Israel is defiled.

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me; for now, O Ephraim, thou hast played the harlot, Israel is defiled.

I know Ephraim all too well; the evil of Israel is not hidden from me. For you have engaged in prostitution, O Ephraim; Israel has defiled itself.

“ You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

Because Syria, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has devised evil against you, saying,

For I know how many are your transgressions and how great are your sins— you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe, and turn aside the needy in the gate.

For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. And within sixty-five years Ephraim will be shattered from being a people.And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all.’”

When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel, but he incurred guilt through Baal and died.

Moreover, the Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam today. And henceforth,the Lord will strike Israel as a reed is shaken in the water, and root up Israel out of this good land that he gave to their fathers and scatter them beyond the Euphrates, because they have made their Asherim, provoking the Lord to anger.And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and made Israel to sin.”

The Lord will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father’s house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah— the king of Assyria!”

What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes early away.

A firstborn bull— he has majesty, and his horns are the horns of a wild ox; with them he shall gore the peoples, all of them, to the ends of the earth; they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.”

But his father refused and said,“ I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great. Nevertheless, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.”So he blessed them that day, saying,“ By you Israel will pronounce blessings, saying,‘ God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh.’” Thus he put Ephraim before Manasseh.

“‘ I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!

And Jeroboam said in his heart,“ Now the kingdom will turn back to the house of David.If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the temple of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people,“ You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.Then this thing became a sin, for the people went as far as Dan to be before one.He also made temples on high places and appointed priests from among all the people, who were not of the Levites.And Jeroboam appointed a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he made. And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.He went up to the altar that he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month that he had devised from his own heart. And he instituted a feast for the people of Israel and went up to the altar to make offerings.

When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound.

Ephraim feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind all day long; they multiply falsehood and violence; they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried to Egypt.

“ Oholah played the whore while she was mine, and she lusted after her lovers the Assyrians, warriorsclothed in purple, governors and commanders, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.She bestowed her whoring upon them, the choicest men of Assyria all of them, and she defiled herself with all the idols of everyone after whom she lusted.She did not give up her whoring that she had begun in Egypt; for in her youth men had lain with her and handled her virgin bosom and poured out their whoring lust upon her.Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted.These uncovered her nakedness; they seized her sons and her daughters; and as for her, they killed her with the sword; and she became a byword among women, when judgment had been executed on her.“ Her sister Oholibah saw this, and she became more corrupt than her sister in her lust and in her whoring, which was worse than that of her sister.She lusted after the Assyrians, governors and commanders, warriors clothed in full armor, horsemen riding on horses, all of them desirable young men.And I saw that she was defiled; they both took the same way.But she carried her whoring further. She saw men portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed in vermilion,wearing belts on their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them having the appearance of officers, a likeness of Babylonians whose native land was Chaldea.When she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea.And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoring lust. And after she was defiled by them, she turned from them in disgust.When she carried on her whoring so openly and flaunted her nakedness, I turned in disgust from her, as I had turned in disgust from her sister.Yet she increased her whoring, remembering the days of her youth, when she played the whore in the land of Egyptand lusted after her lovers there, whose members were like those of donkeys, and whose issue was like that of horses.Thus you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when the Egyptians handled your bosom and pressed your young breasts.”

Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, because he was determined to go after filth.

Because Ephraim has multiplied altars for sinning, they have become to him altars for sinning.

And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Ephraim shall become a desolation in the day of punishment; among the tribes of Israel I make known what is sure.

Ephraim is joined to idols; leave him alone.When their drink is gone, they give themselves to whoring; their rulers dearly love shame.
