They say to wood,‘ You are my father,’ and to stone,‘ You gave me birth.’ They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say,‘ Come and save us!’ (niv)

and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” (niv)

Only acknowledge your guilt— you have rebelled against the Lord your God, you have scattered your favors to foreign gods under every spreading tree, and have not obeyed me,’” declares the Lord. (niv)

Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading,‘ Sir, open the door for us.’“ But he will answer,‘ I don’t know you or where you come from.’ (niv)

My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. (niv)

See, the Lord is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer. (niv)

Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days. (niv)

Then in the nations where they have been carried captive, those who escape will remember me— how I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts, which have turned away from me, and by their eyes, which have lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their detestable practices. (niv)

Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices. (niv)

Return, Israel, to the Lord your God. Your sins have been your downfall!Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to him:“ Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.Assyria cannot save us; we will not mount warhorses. We will never again say‘ Our gods’ to what our own hands have made, for in you the fatherless find compassion.” (niv)

And he said to me,“ Son of man, do you see what they are doing— the utterly detestable things the Israelites are doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable.” (niv)

The glory of the Lord went up from within the city and stopped above the mountain east of it. (niv)

When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations,and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today,then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you. (niv)

Cover their faces with shame, Lord, so that they will seek your name. (niv)

“ I have surely heard Ephraim’s moaning:‘ You disciplined me like an unruly calf, and I have been disciplined. Restore me, and I will return, because you are the Lord my God.After I strayed, I repented; after I came to understand, I beat my breast. I was ashamed and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth.’Is not Ephraim my dear son, the child in whom I delight? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors and say,‘ We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly’;and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and pray to you toward the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name; (niv)

For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them?Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times? (niv)

I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:“ Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.“ Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame— the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you.We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame, Lord, because we have sinned against you.The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;we have not obeyed the Lord our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets.All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you.“ Therefore the curses and sworn judgments written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against you.You have fulfilled the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing on us great disaster. Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem. (niv)

Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord,“ We have sinned against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals.”The Lord replied,“ When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands?But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you.Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!”But the Israelites said to the Lord,“ We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now.”Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the Lord. And he could bear Israel’s misery no longer. (niv)

“ When they sin against you— for there is no one who does not sin— and you become angry with them and give them over to the enemy, who takes them captive to a land far away or near;and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captivity and say,‘ We have sinned, we have done wrong and acted wickedly’; (niv)

Place the cover on top of the ark and put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law that I will give you.There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the covenant law, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites. (niv)

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (niv)

When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord.And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple.Then Solomon said,“ The Lord has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud;I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.” (niv)

Look! The Lord is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads on the heights of the earth. (niv)

When they go with their flocks and herds to seek the Lord, they will not find him; he has withdrawn himself from them. (niv)

You come to the help of those who gladly do right, who remember your ways. But when we continued to sin against them, you were angry. And they will go to others and say,‘ I have sinned, I have perverted what is right, but I did not get what I deserved. (niv)

Then the glory of the Lord rose from above the cherubim and moved to the threshold of the temple. The cloud filled the temple, and the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the Lord. (niv)

Gather together, gather yourselves together, you shameful nation,before the decree takes effect and that day passes like windblown chaff, before the Lord’s fierce anger comes upon you, before the day of the Lord’s wrath comes upon you.Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger. (niv)
