以法蓮看見自己的疾病，猶大家看見自己的創傷，以法蓮就往亞述去，派人去見亞述的大王。可是他卻不能醫治你們，也不能醫好你們的創傷。

“以法莲见自己有病，犹大见自己有伤，他们就打发人往亚述去见耶雷布王，他却不能医治你们，不能治好你们的伤。

“ When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria, and sent to the great king for help. But he is not able to cure you, not able to heal your sores.

“ The people of Ephraim saw how sick they were. The people of Judah saw that they were wounded. Then Ephraim turned to Assyria for help. They sent gifts to the great King Tiglath- Pileser. But he is not able to make you well. He can’t heal your wounds.

When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound.

“ When Israel and Judah saw how sick they were, Israel turned to Assyria— to the great king there— but he could neither help nor cure them.

以法蓮好像一隻愚蠢無知的鴿子。他們向埃及求助，投奔亞述。

人要把它帶到亞述去，作貢物獻給那裡的大王。以法蓮必受羞辱，以色列必因自己的計謀蒙羞。

“以法蓮吃風，整天追趕東風，增添虛謊和強暴。他們與亞述結盟，又給埃及送油。”（本節在《馬索拉文本》為12:2）

他們上去投奔亞述，像一隻獨行的野驢，以法蓮賄買愛人。

亞述王普勒來攻打以色列地，米拿現給普勒三萬公斤銀子，請普勒幫助他堅固王位。

“耶和華這樣說：‘你的損傷無法痊愈，你的創傷不能醫治。

你所有的盟友都忘記了你，不再關心你；我擊打了你，好像仇敵擊打你，又好像殘暴的人懲罰你一樣；都因你的罪孽甚多，你的罪惡無數。你為甚麼因你的損傷哀叫呢？你的病痛無法痊愈。我這樣對你，是因你的罪孽甚多，你的罪惡無數。

亞述不能救我們，我們必不再騎馬；我們親手所做的，我們必不再稱為‘我們的神’；因為在你那裡，孤兒才得著憐憫。”

因為撒瑪利亞的創傷無法醫治，並且殃及猶大，直逼我子民的城門，就是耶路撒冷。

那時，亞哈斯王派人去求亞述王（按照《馬索拉文本》的絕大部分文本，“王”作“諸王”；現參照另一份文本和各古譯本翻譯；參20節和王下16:7）幫助他，因為以東人又來攻打猶大，擄走了許多人。非利士人也侵入了高原和猶大南面的眾城，佔領了伯．示麥、亞雅崙、基低羅、梭哥和屬於梭哥的村莊，亭納和屬於亭納的村莊，瑾瑣和屬於瑾瑣的村莊，並且住在那裡。

亞述王提革拉．毘尼色來到他那裡，不但沒有援助他，反倒欺壓他。亞哈斯取了耶和華殿裡和王宮中，以及眾領袖家裡的財寶，給了亞述王，但也無濟於事。

以色列王比加在位的日子，亞述王提革拉．毗列色前來，攻取了以雲、亞伯．伯．瑪迦、亞挪、基低斯、夏瑣、基列、加利利和拿弗他利全地，把居民擄到亞述去。

於是亞哈斯差派使者去見亞述王提革拉．毗列色，說：“我是你的臣僕，你的兒子，求你上來，救我脫離那起來攻擊我的亞蘭王和以色列王的手。”
