Judah’s leaders are like those who move boundary stones. I will pour out my wrath on them like a flood of water.

Judah’s leaders have stolen some land. They have moved their borders farther north. So I will pour out my anger on them like a flood of water.

The princes of Judah have become like those who move the landmark; upon them I will pour out my wrath like water.

Do not move an ancient boundary stone which was put in place by your ancestors.

Starting a quarrel is like letting out water; stop it before strife breaks out!

At that time King Ahaz asked the king of Assyria for help.The Edomites had again invaded and defeated Judah and carried off captives.The Philistines had raided the cities of Judah in the lowlands and the Negev. They captured and settled in Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its surrounding villages, Timnah and its surrounding villages, and Gimzo and its surrounding villages.The LORD humiliated Judah because of King Ahaz of Israel, for he encouraged Judah to sin and was very unfaithful to the LORD.King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria came, but he gave him more trouble than support.Ahaz gathered riches from the LORD’s temple, the royal palace, and the officials and gave them to the king of Assyria, but that did not help.During his time of trouble King Ahaz was even more unfaithful to the LORD.

Soon now I will pour out my rage on you; I will fully vent my anger against you. I will judge you according to your behavior. I will hold you accountable for all your abominable practices.

The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, and it collapsed; it was utterly destroyed!”

They surround me like water all day long; they join forces and encircle me.

Ahaz sent messengers to King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria, saying,“ I am your servant and your dependent. March up and rescue me from the power of the king of Syria and the king of Israel, who have attacked me.”Then Ahaz took the silver and gold that were in the LORD’s temple and in the treasuries of the royal palace and sent it as tribute to the king of Assyria.The king of Assyria responded favorably to his request; he attacked Damascus and captured it. He deported the people to Kir and executed Rezin.

But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against that house, it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!”
