Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge; And their nobles are famished, And their multitude is parched with thirst.

Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, And one who hurries his footsteps errs.

Listen to the word of the Lord, you sons of Israel, Because the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land, For there is no faithfulness, nor loyalty, Nor knowledge of God in the land.

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they will not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond servants on account of Jesus.For God, who said,“ Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

They did not accept my advice, They disdainfully rejected every rebuke from me.So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own schemes.For the faithlessness of the naive will kill them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them.

For I desire loyalty rather than sacrifice, And the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

For you have forgotten the God of your salvation And have not remembered the rock of your refuge. Therefore you plant delightful plants And set them with vine shoots of a strange god.

The priests did not say,‘ Where is the Lord?’ And those who handle the Law did not know Me; The rulers also revolted against Me, And the prophets prophesied by Baal And walked after things that were of no benefit.

For many days Israel was without the true God and without a teaching priest and without the Law.

On that day I will carry out against Eli everything that I have spoken in regard to his house, from beginning to end.For I have told him that I am going to judge his house forever for the wrongdoing that he knew, because his sons were bringing a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the wrongdoing of Eli’s house shall never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.”So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the house of the Lord. But Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.

Even the stork in the sky Knows her seasons; And the turtledove, the swallow, and the crane Keep to the time of their migration; But My people do not know The judgment of the Lord.“ How can you say,‘ We are wise, And the Law of the Lord is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes Has made it into a lie.The wise men are put to shame, They are dismayed and caught; Behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord, So what kind of wisdom do they have?

An ox knows its owner, And a donkey its master’s manger, But Israel does not know, My people do not understand.”

And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God and made for themselves cast metal images: two calves. And they made an Asherah, and worshiped all the heavenly lights, and served Baal.Then they made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, and they practiced divination and interpreting omens, and gave themselves over to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him.So the Lord was very angry with Israel, and He removed them from His sight; no one was left except the tribe of Judah.Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God either, but they followed the customs which Israel had introduced.So the Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them and handed them over to plunderers, until He had cast them out of His sight.

“ And now, this commandment is for you, the priests.If you do not listen, and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My name,” says the Lord of armies,“ then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; and indeed, I have cursed them already, because you are not taking it to heart.Behold, I am going to rebuke your descendants, and I will spread dung on your faces, the dung of your feasts; and you will be taken away with it.

My zeal has consumed me, Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.

‘ This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.

Though I wrote for him ten thousand precepts of My Law, They are regarded as a strange thing.

My people consult their wooden idol, and their diviner’s wand informs them; For a spirit of infidelity has led them astray, And they have been unfaithful, departing from their God.

Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, to carry an ephod before Me? And did I not give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel?Why are you showing contempt for My sacrifice and My offering which I have commanded for My dwelling, and why are you honoring your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?’Therefore the Lord God of Israel declares,‘ I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father was to walk before Me forever’; but now the Lord declares,‘ Far be it from Me— for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be insignificant.Behold, the days are coming when I will eliminate your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.And you will look at the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that I do for Israel; and there will never be an old man in your house.Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar, so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the increase of your house will die in the prime of life.And this will be the sign to you which will come in regard to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: on the same day both of them will die.But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed always.And everyone who is left in your house will come to bow down to him for a silver coin or a loaf of bread and say,“ Please assign me to one of the priest’s offices so that I may eat a piece of bread.” ’ ”

Now the sons of Eli were useless men; they did not know the Lord.

He will come and put these vine growers to death, and will give the vineyard to others.” However, when they heard this, they said,“ May it never happen!”But Jesus looked at them and said,“ Then what is this statement that has been written:‘ A stone which the builders rejected, This has become the chief cornerstone’?Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”

When its limbs are dry, they are broken off; Women come and make a fire with them, For they are not a people of discernment, Therefore their Maker will not have compassion on them. And their Creator will not be gracious to them.

His watchmen are blind, All of them know nothing. All of them are mute dogs unable to bark, Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber;And the dogs are greedy, they are never satisfied. And they are shepherds who have no understanding; They have all turned to their own way, Each one to his unjust gain, without exception.“ Come,” they say,“ let’s get wine, and let’s drink heavily of intoxicating drink; And tomorrow will be like today, only more so.”

I will punish her for the days of the Baals When she used to offer sacrifices to them And adorn herself with her nose ring and jewelry, And follow her lovers, so that she forgot Me,” declares the Lord.

And they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and put the vine growers to death, and give the vineyard to others.

My people! Their oppressors treat them violently, And women rule over them. My people! Those who guide you lead you astray And confuse the direction of your paths.

But if they do not listen, they will perish by the sword, And die without knowledge.

The snares of the wicked have surrounded me, But I have not forgotten Your Law.

Lord, do Your eyes not look for honesty? You have struck them, But they did not weaken; You have consumed them, But they refused to accept discipline. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to repent.Then I said,“ They are only the poor, They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord Or the judgment of their God.

Leave them alone; they are blind guides of blind people. And if a person who is blind guides another who is blind, both will fall into a pit.”

“ For My people are foolish, They do not know Me; They are foolish children And have no understanding. They are skillful at doing evil, But they do not know how to do good.”

Then I did away with the three shepherds in one month, for my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also was tired of me.Then I said,“ I will not pasture you. What is to die, let it die, and what is to perish, let it perish; and let those who are left eat one another’s flesh.”

And the Lord said to me,“ Take again for yourself the equipment of a foolish shepherd.For behold, I am going to raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for the perishing, seek the scattered, heal the broken, or provide for the one who is exhausted, but will devour the flesh of the fat sheep and tear off their hoofs.Woe to the worthless shepherd Who abandons the flock! A sword will be on his arm And on his right eye! His arm will be totally withered, And his right eye will be blind.”

They* said to Him,“ He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other vine growers, who will pay him the fruit in the proper seasons.”Jesus* said to them,“ Did you never read in the Scriptures,‘ A stone which the builders rejected, This has become the chief cornerstone; This came about from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit.And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them.

‘ Now hear this, you foolish and senseless people, Who have eyes but do not see, Who have ears but do not hear.

Put the trumpet to your lips! Like an eagle the enemy comes against the house of the Lord, Because they have violated My covenant And rebelled against My Law.

And He answered and said to them,“ Why do you yourselves also break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?For God said,‘ Honor your father and mother,’ and,‘ The one who speaks evil of father or mother is to be put to death.’But you say,‘ Whoever says to his father or mother,“ Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,”he is not to honor his father or mother.’ And by this you have invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

“ Gather yourselves and come; Come together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge, Who carry around their wooden idol And pray to a god who cannot save.

For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self indulgence.You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may also become clean.

And these also reel with wine and stagger from intoxicating drink: The priest and the prophet reel with intoxicating drink, They are confused by wine, they stagger from intoxicating drink; They reel while having visions, They stagger when rendering a verdict.
