So you will stumble by day, And the prophet also will stumble with you by night; And I will destroy your mother.

爾必躓於晝、先知偕爾躓於夜、我將滅絕爾母、

晝時庶民殞沒、夕時先知偕亡、京都傾圮、

故爾比晝時顛蹶、夕時先知與爾同蹶、我必滅爾母、

You stumble day and night, and the prophets stumble with you. So I will destroy your mother—

You trip and fall day and night. And the prophets fall down along with you. So I will destroy your nation. She is the one who gave birth to you.

You shall stumble by day; the prophet also shall stumble with you by night; and I will destroy your mother.

So you will stumble in broad daylight, and your false prophets will fall with you in the night. And I will destroy Israel, your mother.

Therefore you shall stumble in the day; The prophet also shall stumble with you in the night; And I will destroy your mother.

And thou shalt stumble in the day, and the prophet also shall stumble with thee in the night; and I will destroy thy mother.

Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.

You stumble day and night, and the false prophets stumble with you; You have destroyed your own people!

“ Dispute with your mother, dispute, Because she is not my wife, and I am not her husband; But she must remove her infidelity from her face And her adultery from between her breasts,

Their widows will be more numerous before Me Than the sand of the seas; I will bring against them, against the mother of a young man, A destroyer at noon; I will suddenly bring down on her Shock and horror.

But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother.

Then I did away with the three shepherds in one month, for my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also was tired of me.

Their houses shall be turned over to others, Their fields and their wives together; For I will stretch out My hand Against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the Lord.“ For from the least of them to the greatest of them, Everyone is greedy for gain, And from the prophet to the priest Everyone deals falsely.They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying,‘ Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace.Were they ashamed because of the abomination they had done? They were not ashamed at all, Nor did they know even how to be ashamed. Therefore they will fall among those who fall; At the time that I punish them, They will collapse,” says the Lord.

Yet the people do not turn back to Him who struck them, Nor do they seek the Lord of armies.So the Lord cuts off head and tail from Israel, Both palm branch and bulrush in a single day.The head is the elder and esteemed man, And the prophet who teaches falsehood is the tail.For those who guide this people are leading them astray; And those who are guided by them are confused.Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, Nor does He have compassion on their orphans or their widows; For every one of them is godless and an evildoer, And every mouth is speaking foolishness. In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away, And His hand is still stretched out.

Your mother will be greatly ashamed, She who gave you birth will be humiliated. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, A wilderness, a dry land and a desert.

As for the prophets: My heart is broken within me, All my bones tremble; I have become like a drunken man, And like a man overcome by wine, Because of the Lord And because of His holy words.

For anyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who reside in Israel, who deserts Me, sets up his idols in his heart, puts in front of his face the stumbling block of his wrongdoing, and then comes to the prophet to request something of Me for himself, I the Lord will let Myself answer him Myself.I will set My face against that person and make him a sign and a proverb, and I will eliminate him from among My people. So you will know that I am the Lord.“ But if the prophet is persuaded so that he speaks a word, it is I, the Lord, who have persuaded that prophet; and I will stretch out My hand against him and eliminate him from among My people Israel.And they will bear the punishment for their wrongdoing; as the wrongdoing of the inquirer is, so the wrongdoing of the prophet will be,

“ And it will come about on that day,” declares the Lord of armies,“ that I will eliminate the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.

Therefore I will give their wives to others, Their fields to new owners; Because from the least even to the greatest Everyone is greedy for gain; From the prophet even to the priest, Everyone practices deceit.They have healed the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially, Saying,‘ Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace.Were they ashamed because of the abomination they had done? They were not ashamed at all, And they did not know how to be ashamed; Therefore they will fall among those who fall; At the time of their punishment they will collapse,” Says the Lord.

This is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray: When they have something to bite with their teeth, They cry out,“ Peace!” But against him who puts nothing in their mouths They declare holy war.Therefore it will be night for you— without vision, And darkness for you— without divination. The sun will go down on the prophets, And the day will become dark over them.The seers will be put to shame, And the diviners will be ashamed. Indeed, they will all cover their lips Because there is no answer from God.

‘ Prepare for war against her; Arise, and let’s attack at noon. Woe to us, for the day declines, For the shadows of the evening lengthen!Arise, and let’s attack by night And destroy her palaces!’ ”

Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, although it was not I who sent them— yet they keep saying:‘ There will be no sword or famine in this land’— by sword and famine those prophets shall meet their end!And the people to whom they are prophesying will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and there will be no one to bury them— neither them, nor their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters. For I will pour out their own wickedness upon them.

“ So My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will have no place in the council of My people, nor will they be written down in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel, so that you may know that I am the Lord God.It is definitely because they have misled My people by saying,‘ Peace!’ when there is no peace. And when anyone builds a wall, behold, they plaster it over with whitewash;so tell those who plaster it over with whitewash, that it will fall. A flooding rain will come, and you, hailstones, will fall, and a violent wind will break out.Behold, when the wall has fallen, will you not be asked,‘ Where is the plaster with which you plastered it?’ ”Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ I will make a violent wind break out in My wrath. There will also be in My anger a flooding rain and hailstones to consume it in wrath.So I will tear down the wall which you plastered over with whitewash and hurl it down to the ground, so that its foundation is exposed; and when it falls, you will perish in its midst. And you will know that I am the Lord.So I will expend My wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it over with whitewash; and I will say to you,‘ The wall is gone and those who plastered it are gone,along with the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem, and who see a vision of peace for her when there is no peace,’ declares the Lord God.

“ Behold, everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you, saying,‘ Like mother, like daughter.’You are the daughter of your mother, who loathed her husband and children. You are also the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.

This is what the Lord says:“ Where is the certificate of divorce By which I have sent your mother away? Or to whom of My creditors did I sell you? Behold, you were sold for your wrongdoings, And for your wrongful acts your mother was sent away.

The days of punishment have come, The days of retribution have come; Let Israel know this! The prophet is a fool, The inspired person is insane, Because of the grossness of your wrongdoing, And because your hostility is so great.Ephraim was a watchman with my God, a prophet; Yet the snare of a bird catcher is in all his ways, And there is only hostility in the house of his God.
