According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted. Therefore they have forgotten me.

Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.

Their names were Oholah the elder, and Oholibah her sister. They became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem Oholibah.

Why do you go about so much to change your ways? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria.You will also leave that place with your hands on your head; for Yahweh has rejected those in whom you trust, and you won’t prosper with them.“ They say,‘ If a man puts away his wife, and she goes from him, and becomes another man’s, should he return to her again?’ Wouldn’t that land be greatly polluted? who set out to go down into Egypt, and have not asked my advice, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

“ But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble; for you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah.

not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which covenant of mine they broke, although I was a husband to them,” says Yahweh.

but you said,“ No, for we will flee on horses;” therefore you will flee; and,“ We will ride on the swift;” therefore those who pursue you will be swift.

You shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass as oxen. Seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.’”

“ Therefore, Oholibah, the Lord Yahweh says:‘ Behold, I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom your soul is alienated, and I will bring them against you on every side:

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they don’t look to the Holy One of Israel, and they don’t seek Yahweh!Yet he also is wise, and will bring disaster, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity.Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. Tilgath Pilneser king of Assyria came to him, and gave him trouble, but didn’t strengthen him.For Ahaz took away a portion out of Yahweh’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but it didn’t help him.In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against Yahweh, this same king Ahaz.

For Yahweh says,“ Your hurt is incurable. Your wound is grievous.There is no one to plead your cause, that you may be bound up. You have no healing medicines.All your lovers have forgotten you. They don’t seek you. For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased.Why do you cry over your injury? Your pain is incurable. For the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.

“ In those days, and in that time,” says Yahweh,“ the children of Israel will come, they and the children of Judah together; they will go on their way weeping, and will seek Yahweh their God.They will inquire concerning Zion with their faces turned toward it, saying,‘ Come, and join yourselves to Yahweh in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.’

Return to your rest, my soul, for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you.

Israel, return to Yahweh your God; for you have fallen because of your sin.

“‘“ Now when I passed by you, and looked at you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore to you, and entered into a covenant with you,” says the Lord Yahweh,“ and you became mine.

I will go and return to my place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.”“ Come! Let’s return to Yahweh; for he has torn us to pieces, and he will heal us; he has injured us, and he will bind up our wounds.

and lest you say in your heart,“ My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.”But you shall remember Yahweh your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is today.

You took your embroidered garments, covered them, and set my oil and my incense before them.

“‘“ That which comes into your mind will not be at all, in that you say,‘ We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.’

Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backsliding.“ Behold, we have come to you; for you are Yahweh our God.Truly in vain is help from the hills, the tumult on the mountains. Truly the salvation of Israel is in Yahweh our God.But the shameful thing has devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Yahweh our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day. We have not obeyed Yahweh our God’s voice.”

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Yahweh.Let’s lift up our heart with our hands to God in the heavens.“ We have transgressed and have rebelled. You have not pardoned.

“‘ The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men.’

It shall be, when Yahweh your God brings you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities which you didn’t build,and houses full of all good things which you didn’t fill, and cisterns dug out which you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive trees which you didn’t plant, and you shall eat and be full;then beware lest you forget Yahweh, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
