This[ shall be] a sign to the house of Israel.Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it:[ according] to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity. For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.

  • 1 Kings 18 21-1 Kings 18 40
And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD[ be] God, follow him: but if Baal,[ then] follow him. And the people answered him not a word. Then said Elijah unto the people, I,[ even] I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets[ are] four hundred and fifty men.Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay[ it] on wood, and put no fire[ under]: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay[ it] on wood, and put no fire[ under]:And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken. And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress[ it] first; for ye[ are] many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire[ under].And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed[ it], and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But[ there was] no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he[ is] a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey,[ or] peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them. And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the[ time] of the offering of the[ evening] sacrifice, that[ there was] neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded. And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD[ that was] broken down. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed. And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid[ him] on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour[ it] on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood. And he said, Do[ it] the second time. And they did[ it] the second time. And he said, Do[ it] the third time. And they did[ it] the third time. And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water. And it came to pass at[ the time of] the offering of the[ evening] sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou[ art] God in Israel, and[ that] I[ am] thy servant, and[ that] I have done all these things at thy word.Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou[ art] the LORD God, and[ that] thou hast turned their heart back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that[ was] in the trench. And when all the people saw[ it], they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he[ is] the God; the LORD, he[ is] the God.And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

  • Ezekiel 15:1-8
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree,[ or than] a branch which is among the trees of the forest?Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will[ men] take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for[ any] work?Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for[ any] work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned? Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from[ one] fire, and[ another] fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I[ am] the LORD, when I set my face against them. And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord GOD.
  • Jeremiah 13:1-14
Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put[ it] on my loins. And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,Take the girdle that thou hast got, which[ is] upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing. Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing. For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear. Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.
