I will not carry out my fierce anger, nor will I devastate Ephraim again. For I am God, and not a man— the Holy One among you. I will not come against their cities.

I will not be so angry with you anymore. I will not completely destroy you again. After all, I am God. I am not a mere man. I am the Holy One among you. I will not direct my anger against their cities.

I will not execute my burning anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath.

No, I will not unleash my fierce anger. I will not completely destroy Israel, for I am God and not a mere mortal. I am the Holy One living among you, and I will not come to destroy.

God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?

Cry out and sing, citizen of Zion, for the Holy One of Israel is among you in his greatness.”

For I will be with you— this is the LORD’s declaration— to save you! I will bring destruction on all the nations where I have scattered you; however, I will not bring destruction on you. I will discipline you justly, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.

“ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the LORD’s declaration.“ For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Now leave me alone, so that my anger can burn against them and I can destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God:“ LORD, why does your anger burn against your people you brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a strong hand?Why should the Egyptians say,‘ He brought them out with an evil intent to kill them in the mountains and eliminate them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger and relent concerning this disaster planned for your people.Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel— you swore to them by yourself and declared,‘ I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and will give your offspring all this land that I have promised, and they will inherit it forever.’”So the LORD relented concerning the disaster he had said he would bring on his people.

“ Because I, the LORD, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.

Who is a God like you, forgiving iniquity and passing over rebellion for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not hold on to his anger forever because he delights in faithful love.He will again have compassion on us; he will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.You will show loyalty to Jacob and faithful love to Abraham, as you swore to our ancestors from days long ago.

“‘ But they rebelled against me and were unwilling to listen to me. None of them threw away the abhorrent things that they prized, and they did not abandon the idols of Egypt. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them, exhausting my anger against them within the land of Egypt.But I acted for the sake of my name, so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations they were living among, in whose sight I had made myself known to Israel by bringing them out of Egypt.

Nothing set apart for destruction is to remain in your hand, so that the LORD will turn from his burning anger and grant you mercy, show you compassion, and multiply you as he swore to your ancestors.

Then Abishai said to David,“ Today God has delivered your enemy to you. Let me thrust the spear through him into the ground just once. I won’t have to strike him twice!”

I will delay my anger for the sake of my name, and I will restrain myself for your benefit and for my praise, so that you will not be destroyed.

“‘ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not follow my statutes and they rejected my ordinances— the person who does them will live by them. They also completely profaned my Sabbaths. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them in the wilderness to put an end to them.But I acted for the sake of my name, so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

Regarding the gospel, they are enemies for your advantage, but regarding election, they are loved because of the patriarchs,since God’s gracious gifts and calling are irrevocable.

The LORD has removed your punishment; he has turned back your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is among you; you need no longer fear harm.On that day it will be said to Jerusalem:“ Do not fear; Zion, do not let your hands grow weak.The LORD your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing.”

Amasa was not on guard against the sword in Joab’s hand, and Joab stabbed him in the stomach with it and spilled his intestines out on the ground. Joab did not stab him again, and Amasa died. Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bichri.

My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.When my sanctuary is among them forever, the nations will know that I, the LORD, sanctify Israel.’”

“ I would have said: I will cut them to pieces and blot out the memory of them from mankind,if I had not feared provocation from the enemy, or feared that these foes might misunderstand and say,‘ Our own hand has prevailed; it wasn’t the LORD who did all this.’”

I will heal their apostasy; I will freely love them, for my anger will have turned from him.

I am not angry. If only there were thorns and briers for me to battle, I would trample them and burn them to the ground.Or let it take hold of my strength; let it make peace with me— make peace with me.In days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom and bloom and fill the whole world with fruit.Did the LORD strike Israel as he struck the one who struck Israel? Was Israel killed like those killed by the LORD?You disputed with Israel by banishing and driving her away. He removed her with his severe storm on the day of the east wind.

Yet he was compassionate; he atoned for their iniquity and did not destroy them. He often turned his anger aside and did not unleash all his wrath.

“ At that time”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”This is what the LORD says: The people who survived the sword found favor in the wilderness. When Israel went to find rest,the LORD appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued to extend faithful love to you.

“‘ But the children rebelled against me. They did not follow my statutes or carefully keep my ordinances— the person who does them will live by them. They also profaned my Sabbaths. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them and exhausting my anger against them in the wilderness.But I withheld my hand and acted for the sake of my name, so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I brought them out.However, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would disperse them among the nations and scatter them among the countries.
