When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling. They say of them,“ Let the people who sacrifice kiss the calves!”

So My people are determined to turn from Me. Though they call them to the One on high, None at all exalts Him.

“ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:‘ Go and say to the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,“ Will you not accept instruction by listening to My words?” declares the Lord.

However, You remained patient with them for many years, And admonished them by Your Spirit through Your prophets, Yet they would not listen. Therefore You handed them over to the peoples of the lands.

Then all the men who were aware that their wives were burning sacrifices to other gods, along with all the women who were standing by, as a large assembly, including all the people who were living in Pathros in the land of Egypt, responded to Jeremiah, saying,“ As for the message that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we are not going to listen to you!But we will certainly carry out every word that has proceeded from our mouths, by burning sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, just as we ourselves, our forefathers, our kings, and our leaders did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food and were well off and saw no misfortune.

For this is a rebellious people, false sons, Sons who refuse to listen To the instruction of the Lord;Who say to the seers,“ You must not see visions”; And to the prophets,“ You must not prophesy the truth to us. Speak to us pleasant words, Prophesy illusions.Get out of the way, turn aside from the path, Stop speaking before us about the Holy One of Israel!”

Now then, send orders and gather to me all Israel at Mount Carmel, together with 450 prophets of Baal and four hundred prophets of the Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”

And the Lord said to Samuel,“ Listen to the voice of the people regarding all that they say to you, because they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being King over them.Like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from Egypt even to this day— in that they have abandoned Me and served other gods— so they are doing to you as well.Now then, listen to their voice; however, you shall warn them strongly and tell them of the practice of the king who will reign over them.”

Yet the Lord, the God of their fathers, sent word to them again and again by His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place;but they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against His people, until there was no remedy.

And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them,“ You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and all his servants, and to all his land;the great trials which your eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders.Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear.

Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and every seer, saying,“ Turn back from your evil ways and keep My commandments and My statutes in accordance with all the Law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.”However, they did not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.They rejected His statutes and His covenant which He made with their fathers, and His warnings which He gave them. And they followed idols and became empty, and followed the nations that surrounded them, about which the Lord had commanded them not to do as they did.And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God and made for themselves cast metal images: two calves. And they made an Asherah, and worshiped all the heavenly lights, and served Baal.

Then the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the sons of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; so they abandoned the Lord and did not serve Him.

And as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.So he erected an altar for Baal at the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria.

“ You men who are stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.

But they refused to pay attention, and turned a stubborn shoulder and plugged their ears from hearing.

And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil.

Then he went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, the month that he had devised in his own heart; and he instituted a feast for the sons of Israel and went up to the altar to burn incense.

“ Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying,‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.” ’ But they did not listen or pay attention to Me,” declares the Lord.

They abandoned the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.

For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing:to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?

So the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth.
