So he answered and said to me:“ This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:‘ Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.

And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses— all dead.

“ Ephraim has encircled Me with lies, And the house of Israel with deceit; But Judah still walks with God, Even with the Holy One who is faithful.

“ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim And the horse from Jerusalem; The battle bow shall be cut off. He shall speak peace to the nations; His dominion shall be‘ from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.’

For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them.You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob.Through You we will push down our enemies; Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us.For I will not trust in my bow, Nor shall my sword save me.

But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

“ Up, up! Flee from the land of the north,” says the Lord;“ for I have spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,” says the Lord.“ Up, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”For thus says the Lord of hosts:“ He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.“ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord.“ Many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you.

No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.Then the king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh with a great army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. And he stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool, on the highway to the Fuller’s Field.And Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came out to him.Then the Rabshakeh said to them,“ Say now to Hezekiah,‘ Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria:“ What confidence is this in which you trust?I say you speak of having plans and power for war; but they are mere words. Now in whom do you trust, that you rebel against me?Look! You are trusting in the staff of this broken reed, Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.“ But if you say to me,‘ We trust in the Lord our God,’ is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and said to Judah and Jerusalem,‘ You shall worship before this altar’?”’Now therefore, I urge you, give a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses— if you are able on your part to put riders on them!How then will you repel one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen?Have I now come up without the Lord against this land to destroy it? The Lord said to me,‘ Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the Rabshakeh,“ Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; and do not speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”But the Rabshakeh said,“ Has my master sent me to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat and drink their own waste with you?”Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out with a loud voice in Hebrew, and said,“ Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!Thus says the king:‘ Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you;nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying,“ The Lord will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”’Do not listen to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria:‘ Make peace with me by a present and come out to me; and every one of you eat from his own vine and every one from his own fig tree, and every one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying,“ The Lord will deliver us.” Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria?Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Indeed, have they delivered Samaria from my hand?Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?’”But they held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was,“ Do not answer him.”Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.

“ Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,“ That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Indeed He says,‘ It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’”

Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid;‘ For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’”

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:“ Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated,“ God with us.”
