For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance— now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

故其所預簡者、必從而召之；其所召者、更從而義之；其所義者、更從而榮之。

不寧惟是、吾人亦知人苟能真心愛天主、則天主必使天地萬物同力相助、而亨通之。

故人之稱義、惟憑耶穌基督之救贖；此實天主之慈恩、不勞而獲者也。蓋天主使耶穌為贖罪而犧牲、俾信賴其聖血者得蒙赦宥、亦所以彰其正義耳。吾人賴天主之寬容、宿罪全銷、重負頓釋。於是天主之正義、昌明於斯世。是天主使吾人信耶穌而成義、亦所以自彰其義也。

一入閟帷、永開生路、萬古暢通；其所攜者、非羔犢之血、乃其自身所流之寶血也。

蓋欲奉行天主之旨而獲所諾、則耐德尚矣。

夫天主一而已矣、而介居天主與人之間者、亦一而已矣、則基督耶穌其人也。

有為新約仲介之耶穌焉、有耶穌所灑之寶血焉；此血也、其所發之言、非復亞伯之血所得同日而語矣。

然則耶穌所為仲介之新約、視舊約豈不更美乎。

夫嚮日吾人尚不堪荏弱、而基督竟按其定時、毅然為罪人捨生。

是故同蒙恩召之聖兄弟、盍一諦觀為吾教總宣道使及大司祭之耶穌乎！

凡此何一非因信德而見稱者乎？顧其未獲所許者何也？蓋天主夙為吾人備有更微妙之事、而古人之成全、實有待乎吾人者焉。

眾子既具血肉之體、聖子亦曾具血肉之體；其所以然者、乃欲通過死亡之關以滅彼掌握死權之沙殫、

故基督既一度為除眾人之罪而捨生、亦將為其信徒重臨於世、非再贖罪、乃為之超渡也。

方天主之授恩諾於亞伯漢也、憑己而誓曰：

諸老合奏新歌一曲、其詞曰：誰堪受其書而啟其緘兮、惟爾具斯大德、爾曾自獻為犧牲兮、流爾寶血；贖元元於各種各族兮、萬邦重譯；俾翕然歸返乎天主兮、以成神國；

蓋基督亦曾為眾人之罪而死矣。彼以義者之身、而為諸不義者舍命、欲引吾人歸順天主耳。然彼之肉身雖被處死、而其神靈則生、

願平安之天主、曩憑永約之血、使吾主耶穌基督自死者中復活、而為群羊之大牧者、

吾人托其恩澤、乃得免罪復義、而承嗣永生之望焉。

然大慈天主、既召爾等與基督同享無窮光榮、一俟爾等略受挫折以後、必將親自予爾等以成全、賜爾等以堅貞、而充爾等以神力也。

此聖教乃建立於永生期望之上、而永生乃真實無妄之天主所許於萬古之前、

夫既曰新約、則舊者之見廢明矣。蓋天下之事、陳舊而呈衰老之象者、其離死亡不遠矣。夫舊約固亦有其敬禮之儀式、與夫有形之聖所也。

且無論何人、因我之名、而捨其第宅、兄弟、姊妹、父母、子女、或田地者、必得收獲百倍、並承永生。

身處逆境而能堅忍自守者乃為有福之人。蓋經試練而不渝者；必獲生命之冠、此固天主所許於其孝愛之子也。

予之忍受一切、實為選民之故、欲使其恃基督耶穌以邀天恩、而承無疆之休。

今耶穌所掌大司祭之職、實非若輩所得同日而語；正如彼所為仲介之盟約、與夫斯約所根據之恩諾、悉非舊緒所得而比擬也。使舊約已屬完美無缺、應無另立新約之餘地；顧天主嘗責先人曰：『主曰：「時將至、爾其拭目視！吾與義塞及猶太、亟欲訂立新盟約。

其召爾也、以吾儕之傳福音為因緣、而以爾等得沾吾主耶穌基督之光榮為目的。

合唱新歌一曲於寶座及四靈物諸老之前。此歌除贖自塵世之十四萬四千人外、無能識之者；若輩平生未曾沾染女色、皆屬純粹之童身、故得追隨羔羊、須臾不離、贖自人間、而於天主及羔羊充先薦之菓、

蓋罪孽之果報為死、而天主之恩賜、則因耶穌基督而獲永生是已。

此數人者、皆懷抱信德而死、生前未見恩諾之通盤實現、惟高瞻遠矚、延頸舉踵企而迎之。同時復自認人生在世、猶如羇旅他鄉、暫作過客而已。

此即永生、亦即天主所夙許於吾人之恩諾也。

予賜以永生、終無淪亡之虞、亦無能奪自予手。

可頌哉、吾主耶穌基督之天主聖父也！天主大慈大悲、藉耶穌基督之復活、予吾人以新生、使吾人欣欣向榮、以望承其不朽不染不衰之洪基、斯則夙為爾曹預儲於天矣。

當時吾人尚為天主之悖逆、且得緣其聖子之死、而與天主重相契合、今既重相契合、不更能緣其永生、而承無疆之休乎？

我裸、爾則衣之、我疾、爾則視之、我在獄、爾則來探之也。」

某顯者問曰：『善夫子、吾當何修、得享永生？』

至是王將謂右者曰：「爾等見寵於吾父者、自創世以來為爾所備之國、胥來承嗣。

耶穌出行、途中一人趨而就之、跪而問曰：『善哉夫子、吾當如何修行、以承永生？』

不寧惟是、使吾儕足以任新約之役者、亦惟天主而已。此約也、非本乎文字、乃本乎聖神。蓋文字乃肅殺之具、而聖神則生命之源也。

且從猶太及天下萬國之中、甄而別之、召而集之；果有何不可乎？

純德主所眷。基業永古存。

吾人托庇聖子、仰賴寶血、得蒙拯贖、滌除夙穢；實憑天主之豐恩厚澤。

而基督獨為吾罪人捨生、足徵天主愛我之篤、寧有既極。

新約乃最後之遺囑也、既云遺囑、則立遺囑者必有一死、
