今基督已至矣、彼乃新興恩寵時代之大司祭也。蓋彼已入閟帷、而成永久贖世之弘業。而其所通過之幕帷、實盡善盡美、非人手所設、亦不屬斯世；

But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation,

Since the law has only a shadow of the good things to come, and not the actual form of those realities, it can never perfect the worshipers by the same sacrifices they continually offer year after year.

For we know that if our temporary, earthly dwelling is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made with hands.

The God who made the world and everything in it— He is Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in shrines made by hands.Neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives everyone life and breath and all things.

Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves to be purified with better sacrifices than these.For the Messiah did not enter a sanctuary made with hands( only a model of the true one) but into heaven itself, so that He might now appear in the presence of God for us.

“ We heard Him say,‘ I will demolish this sanctuary made by human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’”

Now the main point of what is being said is this: We have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,a minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not man.

Therefore, He had to be like His brothers in every way, so that He could become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

However, the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says:

The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The woman said to Him,“ I know that Messiah is coming”( who is called Christ).“ When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”

In the same way, the Messiah did not exalt Himself to become a high priest, but the One who said to Him, You are My Son; today I have become Your Father,also said in another passage, You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.

Then I said,“ See, I have come; it is written about me in the volume of the scroll.

Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession;

This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.But every spirit who does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist; you have heard that he is coming, and he is already in the world now.

“ See, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to His temple, the Messenger of the covenant you desire— see, He is coming,” says the Lord of Hosts.

“ The Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression.” This is the Lord’s declaration.

And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah: because out of you will come a leader who will shepherd My people Israel.”

You were also circumcised in Him with a circumcision not done with hands, by putting off the body of flesh, in the circumcision of the Messiah.

and asked Him,“ Are You the One who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”

The scepter will not depart from Judah or the staff from between his feet until He whose right it is comes and the obedience of the peoples belongs to Him.

Now the first covenant also had regulations for ministry and an earthly sanctuary.For a tabernacle was set up, and in the first room, which is called the holy place, were the lampstand, the table, and the presentation loaves.Behind the second curtain, the tabernacle was called the most holy place.It contained the gold altar of incense and the ark of the covenant, covered with gold on all sides, in which there was a gold jar containing the manna, Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant.The cherubim of glory were above it overshadowing the mercy seat. It is not possible to speak about these things in detail right now.With these things set up this way, the priests enter the first room repeatedly, performing their ministry.But the high priest alone enters the second room, and he does that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offers for himself and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance.The Holy Spirit was making it clear that the way into the most holy place had not yet been disclosed while the first tabernacle was still standing.This is a symbol for the present time, during which gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the worshiper’s conscience.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin.

For this Melchizedek— King of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham and blessed him as he returned from defeating the kings,

If then, perfection came through the Levitical priesthood( for under it the people received the law), what further need was there for another priest to appear, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in the order of Aaron?For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must be a change of law as well.For the One these things are spoken about belonged to a different tribe. No one from it has served at the altar.Now it is evident that our Lord came from Judah, and Moses said nothing about that tribe concerning priests.And this becomes clearer if another priest like Melchizedek appears,who did not become a priest based on a legal command concerning physical descent but based on the power of an indestructible life.For it has been testified: You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.So the previous command is annulled because it was weak and unprofitable( for the law perfected nothing), but a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.None of this happened without an oath. For others became priests without an oath,but He became a priest with an oath made by the One who said to Him: The Lord has sworn, and He will not change His mind, You are a priest forever.So Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better covenant.Now many have become Levitical priests, since they are prevented by death from remaining in office.But because He remains forever, He holds His priesthood permanently.Therefore, He is always able to save those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.He doesn’t need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do— first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all when He offered Himself.
