It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.

The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive.

Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings.

that you may enter into covenant with the Lord your God, and into His oath, which the Lord your God makes with you today,

They did not keep the covenant of God; They refused to walk in His law,And forgot His works And His wonders that He had shown them.

Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say,“ And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one,“ And to your Seed,” who is Christ.And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.

So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said,“ All the words which the Lord has said we will do.”And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel.Then he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord.And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar.Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said,“ All that the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.”And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said,“ This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all these words.”Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel,and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity.But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank.

But He made His own people go forth like sheep, And guided them in the wilderness like a flock;And He led them on safely, so that they did not fear; But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.And He brought them to His holy border, This mountain which His right hand had acquired.

He brought out His people with joy, His chosen ones with gladness.

Then people would say:‘ Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt;

The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, Because they have transgressed the laws, Changed the ordinance, Broken the everlasting covenant.Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, And those who dwell in it are desolate. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, And few men are left.

And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He had testified against them; they followed idols, became idolaters, and went after the nations who were all around them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them that they should not do like them.So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone.

And many nations will pass by this city; and everyone will say to his neighbor,‘ Why has the Lord done so to this great city?’Then they will answer,‘ Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God, and worshiped other gods and served them.’”

And the Lord said to Moses:“ Behold, you will rest with your fathers; and this people will rise and play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.Then My anger shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day,‘ Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?’And I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods.

For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you,‘ Fear not, I will help you.’

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

“ When I passed by you again and looked upon you, indeed your time was the time of love; so I spread My wing over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine,” says the Lord God.

The face of the Lord scattered them; He no longer regards them. The people do not respect the priests Nor show favor to the elders.

‘ You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.

Behold, God will not cast away the blameless, Nor will He uphold the evildoers.

So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.

You led Your people like a flock By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said,‘ This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’”

Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all the good things have come upon you which the Lord your God promised you, so the Lord will bring upon you all harmful things, until He has destroyed you from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.When you have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you.”

These are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He made with them in Horeb.

Yet you have forsaken Me and served other gods. Therefore I will deliver you no more.“ Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your time of distress.”

In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the Angel of His Presence saved them; In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; And He bore them and carried them All the days of old.

And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.

And brought out Israel from among them, For His mercy endures forever;With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, For His mercy endures forever;To Him who divided the Red Sea in two, For His mercy endures forever;And made Israel pass through the midst of it, For His mercy endures forever;

And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood.For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,saying,“ This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.”

A RELATIVE: Who is this coming up from the wilderness, Leaning upon her beloved? I awakened you under the apple tree. There your mother brought you forth; There she who bore you brought you forth.

And this is the second thing you do: You cover the altar of the Lord with tears, With weeping and crying; So He does not regard the offering anymore, Nor receive it with goodwill from your hands.
