And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.

And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

Abraham was patient while he waited. Then he received what God promised him.

And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.

Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

And so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

And so by persevering, Abraham inherited the promise.

Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

so that you won’t become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance.

I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

As it is written: I have made you the father of many nations— in the presence of the God in whom he believed, the one who gives life to the dead and calls things into existence that do not exist.He believed, hoping against hope, so that he became the father of many nations according to what had been spoken: So will your descendants be.He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body to be already dead( since he was about a hundred years old) and also the deadness of Sarah’s womb.He did not waver in unbelief at God’s promise but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,because he was fully convinced that what God had promised, he was also able to do.Therefore, it was credited to him for righteousness.Now it was credited to him was not written for Abraham alone,but also for us. It will be credited to us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

But Abram said,“ Lord GOD, what can you give me, since I am childless and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”Abram continued,“ Look, you have given me no offspring, so a slave born in my house will be my heir.”Now the word of the LORD came to him:“ This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body will be your heir.”He took him outside and said,“ Look at the sky and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him,“ Your offspring will be that numerous.”Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

The LORD answered me: Write down this vision; clearly inscribe it on tablets so one may easily read it.For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late.

Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time God had told him.Abraham named his son who was born to him— the one Sarah bore to him— Isaac.When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him.Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.Sarah said,“ God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears will laugh with me.”She also said,“ Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son for him in his old age.”

But the Israelites were fruitful, increased rapidly, multiplied, and became extremely numerous so that the land was filled with them.

I will bless her; indeed, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will produce nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed and said to himself,“ Can a child be born to a hundred-year-old man? Can Sarah, a ninety-year-old woman, give birth?”
