方天主之授恩諾於亞伯漢也、憑己而誓曰：

When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself,

For people swear an oath by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath serving as confirmation is an end of every dispute.In the same way God, desiring even more to demonstrate to the heirs of the promise the fact that His purpose is unchangeable, confirmed it with an oath,so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to hold firmly to the hope set before us.

The oath which He swore to our father Abraham,

You will give truth to Jacob And favor to Abraham, Which You swore to our forefathers From the days of old.

I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out from My mouth in righteousness And will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.

The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac.Then He confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant,

For I have sworn by Myself,” declares the Lord,“ that Bozrah will become an object of horror, a disgrace, a wasteland, and a curse; and all its cities will become permanent ruins.”

I will also eliminate all its cattle from beside many waters; And a human foot will not muddy them anymore, And the hoofs of animals will not muddy them.

But if you will not obey these words, I swear by Myself,” declares the Lord,“ that this house will become a place of ruins.” ’ ”
