Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

We don’t want you to slow down. Instead, be like those who have faith and are patient. They will receive what God promised.

so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen.

I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense.I saw that it was overgrown with nettles. It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down.Then, as I looked and thought about it, I learned this lesson:A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things.

This is what the Lord says:“ Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply,‘ No, that’s not the road we want!’

Anyone who is destined for prison will be taken to prison. Anyone destined to die by the sword will die by the sword. This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful.

Therefore, angels are only servants— spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.

If you don’t know, O most beautiful woman, follow the trail of my flock, and graze your young goats by the shepherds’ tents.

‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead.”

So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.

We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering.

“ But the master replied,‘ You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate,

And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.

This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus.And I heard a voice from heaven saying,“ Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!”

A lazy person’s way is blocked with briers, but the path of the upright is an open highway.

By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions,

Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith— for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise.Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God.It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise.And so a whole nation came from this one man who was as good as dead— a nation with so many people that, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them.All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own.If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back.But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac,

For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.

“ Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the heavenly banquet. The rich man also died and was buried,

Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands.For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.

And Abraham is also the spiritual father of those who have been circumcised, but only if they have the same kind of faith Abraham had before he was circumcised.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.

“ But now, as to whether the dead will be raised— even Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning bush. Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, he referred to the Lord as‘ the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’So he is the God of the living, not the dead, for they are all alive to him.”

But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.
