切勿有所懈弛、當踵效昔賢、篤信不移、堅忍不拔、而終得承嗣恩諾也。

We don’t want you to slow down. Instead, be like those who have faith and are patient. They will receive what God promised.

so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.

I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins.I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw:A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys.

This is what the Lord says:“ Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said,‘ We will not walk in it.’

“ If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.” This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

If you do not know, most beautiful of women, follow the tracks of the sheep and graze your young goats by the tents of the shepherds.

‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,

Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

“ His master replied,‘ You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?

But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.Then I heard a voice from heaven say,“ Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”“ Yes,” says the Spirit,“ they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway.

who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.Instead, they were longing for a better country— a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,

because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.

“ The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.

And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands,like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

And he is then also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.

But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord‘ the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”

But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
