God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

God is fair. He will not forget what you have done. He will remember the love you have shown him. You showed it when you helped his people. And you show it when you keep on helping them.

For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.

For God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you demonstrated for his name by serving the saints— and by continuing to serve them.

I was in prison, and you visited me.’“ Then these righteous ones will reply,‘ Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’“ And the King will say,‘ I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone— especially to those in the family of faith.

As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him.

And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Cornelius stared at him in terror.“ What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied,“ Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering!

If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded.

Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.

because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people.And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ.Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.

When he came to Rome, he searched everywhere until he found me.May the Lord show him special kindness on the day of Christ’s return. And you know very well how helpful he was in Ephesus.

Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,and you say,“ Good bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”— but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell themand bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.

When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.

Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.So two good things will result from this ministry of giving— the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ.And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you.Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!

If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead.Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them.We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion— how can God’s love be in that person?Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

So the believers in Antioch decided to send relief to the brothers and sisters in Judea, everyone giving as much as they could.

Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once.I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness.At the moment I have all I need— and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.

Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia.They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will.They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem.They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving.Since you excel in so many ways— in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us— I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches.You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

Now regarding your question about the money being collected for God’s people in Jerusalem. You should follow the same procedure I gave to the churches in Galatia.On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once.When I come, I will write letters of recommendation for the messengers you choose to deliver your gift to Jerusalem.

He told me,‘ Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your gifts to the poor have been noticed by God!

If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord— and he will repay you!

Remember, O my God, all that I have done for these people, and bless me for it.

Should they repay evil for good? They have dug a pit to kill me, though I pleaded for them and tried to protect them from your anger.

But before I come, I must go to Jerusalem to take a gift to the believers there.For you see, the believers in Macedonia and Achaia have eagerly taken up an offering for the poor among the believers in Jerusalem.They were glad to do this because they feel they owe a real debt to them. Since the Gentiles received the spiritual blessings of the Good News from the believers in Jerusalem, they feel the least they can do in return is to help them financially.

And now the prize awaits me— the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

May he remember all your gifts and look favorably on your burnt offerings. Interlude

I really don’t need to write to you about this ministry of giving for the believers in Jerusalem.

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha( which in Greek is Dorcas). She was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor.About this time she became ill and died. Her body was washed for burial and laid in an upstairs room.But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda, so they sent two men to beg him,“ Please come as soon as possible!”So Peter returned with them; and as soon as he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room. The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them.

In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels,

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proudor rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Then I commanded the Levites to purify themselves and to guard the gates in order to preserve the holiness of the Sabbath. Remember this good deed also, O my God! Have compassion on me according to your great and unfailing love.

I also made sure that the supply of wood for the altar and the first portions of the harvest were brought at the proper times. Remember this in my favor, O my God.

He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!

“ Go and shout this message to Jerusalem. This is what the Lord says:“ I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago, how you loved me and followed me even through the barren wilderness.In those days Israel was holy to the Lord, the first of his children. All who harmed his people were declared guilty, and disaster fell on them. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him,“ You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.”“ But,” some might say,“ our sinfulness serves a good purpose, for it helps people see how righteous God is. Isn’t it unfair, then, for him to punish us?”( This is merely a human point of view.)

I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes my messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.”

For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.
