All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own.If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back.

because you have not yet arrived at the place of rest, the land the Lord your God is giving you as your special possession.

He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted.

He drove out the nations before them; he gave them their inheritance by lot. He settled the tribes of Israel into their homes.

The years passed, and the Lord had given the people of Israel rest from all their enemies. Joshua, who was now very old,

Years later, when Joshua led our ancestors in battle against the nations that God drove out of this land, the Tabernacle was taken with them into their new territory. And it stayed there until the time of King David.
