For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard[ it].

For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.

The good news was announced to our people of long ago. It has also been preached to us. The message they heard didn’t have any value for them. That’s because they didn’t share the faith of those who obeyed.

For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham,[ saying], In thee shall all nations be blessed.
