蓋慈音之達於我輩、宛如昔日達於先人。顧先人聞之、而未獲其益者、以其未能用信德融洽其所聞之道、而身體之耳。

因为有福音传给我们，像传给他们一样；只是所听见的道与他们无益，因为他们没有信心与所听见的道调和。

For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.

The good news was announced to our people of long ago. It has also been preached to us. The message they heard didn’t have any value for them. That’s because they didn’t share the faith of those who obeyed.

For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.

For this good news— that God has prepared this rest— has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God.

For we also have received the good news just as they did. But the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith.

For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also did; but the word they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united with those who listened with faith.

且爾等一聞吾儕口授之天主福音、不以其為世俗之教、乃審知其實為天主聖道、而欣然納之。故聖道亦緣爾之篤信、而運其妙工於爾身；此尤吾儕之所引以為慰、而感謝天主不能自已者也。

惜非人人皆能信從福音耳。意灑雅已慨乎言之矣、『主乎、予之所傳、誰其信之？』是故吾人之信德、起於所聞；所聞者何、即基督之福音是已。

苟無信德、安能取悅。蓋人之親近天主、必先篤信實有天主、與夫天主之有求必應也。

蓋『鍛鍊身體、其益猶小；鍛鍊德性、其益莫大、無論今生來生、享受無窮矣。』

具徵吾儕之授爾以福音、不僅以言、且以神力與聖神、實事求是、廓然不疑。吾儕向在爾中服務、爾等固知其為何如人也。

尚憶初次為爾講述福音時、微軀患恙、不堪顦顇、

兄弟其慎之哉！莫使爾中有一人存執拗不信之心、自絕於永生之主宰也。

天主曾語亞伯漢曰：「普天生靈、咸賴爾裔而獲福。」天主立子、先以福爾、欲爾自反、而脫罪惡耳。』

是故爾宜滌瑕盪穢、徹私去蔽、以謙誠溫和之意、領受其所植於爾心田之聖道。惟斯道能全爾靈。

爾苟能遵法而行、割禮固屬有益；如仍犯法、則雖受割、亦猶未割。

可見後來者必有得入者焉。彼先聞慈音者之不得入、徒以執迷不悟故耳。

使我無愛德、雖罄輸所有、以濟貧寒、甚至捨身以投諸火、亦何益之有。

葆樂、巴拿巴坦然答曰：『天主之道、本當先傳於爾；爾既棄之、而自絕於永生之道、吾乃轉傳於異邦。

天主所誓：「不令入吾安寧」者、又誰耶？非心懷狐疑之諸悖逆乎？鳴呼、若輩之不得入安寗、以不信也；吾人亦可以鑒矣！

彼等且逆知其所預言諸事、非為本身、乃為爾等。凡此奧義、即眾天神亦渴欲一窺、而爾曹則因布道者憑天主所遣聖神之靈感、而得諦聽矣

於是凡不信真理而惟邪惡是好者、必至判罪而後已。兄弟則為主之所愛、吾儕尚可不為爾等恆謝洪恩乎？蓋天主自始予爾等以簡拔、俾爾等受聖神之感化、篤信真理、以蒙救恩。

古經實已逆睹天主之將使普天萬民因信成義、故預報福音於亞伯漢曰：『天下萬民、咸將蒙休於爾懷中。』
