And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt?

到底是谁听见却悖逆了呢？难道不是被摩西从埃及带领出来的那一切人吗？

那時，聽見他話惹他發怒的是誰呢？豈不是跟着摩西從埃及出來的眾人嗎？

聽見他而又背叛他的是誰呢？豈不是跟着摩西從埃及出來的眾人嗎？

聽見祂的聲音卻又悖逆祂的是誰呢？不就是摩西從埃及領出來的那些人嗎？

當時聽而惹他發怒的是誰呢？豈不是那些由摩西領導出埃及的眾人麼？

到底是誰聽見卻悖逆了呢？難道不是被摩西從埃及帶領出來的那一切人嗎？

其聞而激怒者誰耶、非從摩西出埃及之眾乎、

聽而抵觸者誰、非從摩西出埃及之眾乎、

其時聞而激怒者誰、非從摩西出伊及之眾乎、

夫當日聆天主之音、而忤天主之神者、誰耶？非隨摩西出埃及之眾人乎？

Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?

Who were those who heard and refused to obey? Weren’t they all the people Moses led out of Egypt?

For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses?

For who heard and rebelled? Wasn’t it all who came out of Egypt under Moses?

For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?

For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses?

For who, when they heard, did provoke? nay, did not all they that came out of Egypt by Moses?

For who heard and rebelled? Wasn’t it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses?

For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses’ leadership?

For who, when they heard, rebelled? Wasn’t it all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?

Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron.“ If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they complained.

Instead, your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will lead the people into the land. Encourage him, for he will lead Israel as they take possession of it.

You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

But my servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land.

For the Lord had said of them,“ They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

Yet they kept on sinning against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.

Then they plotted among themselves,“ Let’s choose a new leader and go back to Egypt!”

And do you remember God’s reply? He said,“ No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”It is the same today, for a few of the people of Israel have remained faithful because of God’s grace— his undeserved kindness in choosing them.

There your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw my miracles for forty years.So I was angry with them, and I said,‘ Their hearts always turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’

‘ Not one of you from this wicked generation will live to see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see this land because he has followed the Lord completely. I will give to him and his descendants some of the very land he explored during his scouting mission.’

Of the twelve who had explored the land, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.

I was forty years old when Moses, the servant of the Lord, sent me from Kadesh barnea to explore the land of Canaan. I returned and gave an honest report,but my brothers who went with me frightened the people from entering the Promised Land. For my part, I wholeheartedly followed the Lord my God.So that day Moses solemnly promised me,‘ The land of Canaan on which you were just walking will be your grant of land and that of your descendants forever, because you wholeheartedly followed the Lord my God.’“ Now, as you can see, the Lord has kept me alive and well as he promised for all these forty five years since Moses made this promise— even while Israel wandered in the wilderness. Today I am eighty five years old.I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then.
