and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Jesus could set people free who were afraid of death. All their lives they were held as slaves by that fear.

and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self- control.

My heart is severely pained within me. The terrors of death have fallen on me.

that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.

to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve him without fear,in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.

Now I say this, brothers, that flesh and blood can’t inherit God’s Kingdom; neither does the perishable inherit imperishable.Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.For this perishable body must become imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.But when this perishable body will have become imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen:“ Death is swallowed up in victory.”“ Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory?”The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver; on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;

Terrors will make him afraid on every side, and will chase him at his heels.

His flesh is so consumed away that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out.Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.“ If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him;then God is gracious to him, and says,‘ Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.He sings before men, and says,‘ I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light.’

For you have delivered my soul from death, and prevented my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living.

to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.

How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors.

For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness, for they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

What man is he who shall live and not see death, who shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah.

He will be rooted out of the security of his tent. He will be brought to the king of terrors.

Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don’t you listen to the law?
