and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Jesus could set people free who were afraid of death. All their lives they were held as slaves by that fear.

and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him,“ Abba, Father.”

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self discipline.

My heart pounds in my chest. The terror of death assaults me.

the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay.

We have been rescued from our enemies so we can serve God without fear,in holiness and righteousness for as long as we live.

What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that our physical bodies cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever.But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:“ Death is swallowed up in victory.O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

“ Terrors surround the wicked and trouble them at every step.

Their flesh wastes away, and their bones stick out.They are at death’s door; the angels of death wait for them.“ But if an angel from heaven appears— a special messenger to intercede for a person and declare that he is upright—he will be gracious and say,‘ Rescue him from the grave, for I have found a ransom for his life.’Then his body will become as healthy as a child’s, firm and youthful again.When he prays to God, he will be accepted. And God will receive him with joy and restore him to good standing.He will declare to his friends,‘ I sinned and twisted the truth, but it was not worth it.God rescued me from the grave, and now my life is filled with light.’

For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life giving light.

He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine.

In an instant they are destroyed, completely swept away by terrors.

The black night is their morning. They ally themselves with the terrors of the darkness.

No one can live forever; all will die. No one can escape the power of the grave. Interlude

They are torn from the security of their homes and are brought down to the king of terrors.

Tell me, you who want to live under the law, do you know what the law actually says?
