He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently.

Blessed is the man whom You discipline, Lord, And whom You teach from Your Law,

It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

Correct me, Lord, but with justice; Not with Your anger, or You will bring me to nothing.

So you are to know in your heart that the Lord your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.

It is good for me that I was afflicted, So that I may learn Your statutes.

We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

For I have been stricken all day long, And punished every morning.If I had said,“ I will speak this way,” Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children.

Therefore through this Jacob’s wrongdoing will be forgiven; And this will be the full price of the pardoning of his sin: When he makes all the altar stones like pulverized chalk stones; When Asherim and incense altars will not stand.

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
