Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us,

既有若許之證者、雲集圍我、則宜釋諸重負與糾纏之罪、以恆忍而趨我前程、

既有見證如雲、萬目睽睽、監臨左右、吾人尚可不以堅忍之志、奮赴前程、徹除一切障礙、解脫罪孽之羈絆、

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

A huge cloud of witnesses is all around us. So let us throw off everything that stands in our way. Let us throw off any sin that holds on to us so tightly. And let us keep on running the race marked out for us.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize.Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable crown.So I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air.Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

“ Be on your guard, so that your minds are not dulled from carousing, drunkenness, and worries of life, or that day will come on you unexpectedly

by holding firm to the word of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing.

My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death,assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead.Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead,I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.

So don’t throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you may receive what was promised.For yet in a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.But my righteous one will live by faith; and if he draws back, I have no pleasure in him.But we are not those who draw back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and are saved.

You were running well. Who prevented you from being persuaded regarding the truth?

Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.Because of these, God’s wrath is coming upon the disobedient,and you once walked in these things when you were living in them.But now, put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth.

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.

And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance,endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope.This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander.

to take off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires,to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,and to put on the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.

So then, dear friends, since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!Brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name as an example of suffering and patience.See, we count as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about— the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Besides this, since you know the time, it is already the hour for you to wake up from sleep, because now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.The night is nearly over, and the day is near; so let us discard the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.Let us walk with decency, as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness; not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarreling and jealousy.But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.

And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.

No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the commanding officer.

eternal life to those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality;

because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Now in this hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees?Now if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with patience.

As for the seed that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life, and produce no mature fruit.But the seed in the good ground— these are the ones who, having heard the word with an honest and good heart, hold on to it and by enduring, produce fruit.

Because you have kept my command to endure, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is going to come on the whole world to test those who live on the earth.

in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for God’s will.

“ If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters— yes, and even his own life— he cannot be my disciple.Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.“ For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?Otherwise, after he has laid the foundation and cannot finish it, all the onlookers will begin to ridicule him,saying,‘ This man started to build and wasn’t able to finish.’“ Or what king, going to war against another king, will not first sit down and decide if he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes against him with twenty thousand?If not, while the other is still far off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.

knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness,

“ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to attest these things to you for the churches. I am the Root and descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

If anyone is to be taken captive, into captivity he goes. If anyone is to be killed with a sword, with a sword he will be killed. This calls for endurance and faithfulness from the saints.

He then told them,“ Watch out and be on guard against all greed, because one’s life is not in the abundance of his possessions.”

He testifies to what he has seen and heard, and yet no one accepts his testimony.

But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

I, John, your brother and partner in the affliction, kingdom, and endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

The one who loves a father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; the one who loves a son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

Through Silvanus, a faithful brother( as I consider him), I have written to you briefly in order to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!

For before he was taken away, he was approved as one who pleased God.Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.By faith Noah, after he was warned about what was not yet seen and motivated by godly fear, built an ark to deliver his family. By faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and set out for a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, even though he did not know where he was going.By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.By faith even Sarah herself, when she was unable to have children, received power to conceive offspring, even though she was past the age, since she considered that the one who had promised was faithful.Therefore, from one man— in fact, from one as good as dead— came offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and as innumerable as the grains of sand along the seashore.These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.Now those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.If they were thinking about where they came from, they would have had an opportunity to return.But they now desire a better place— a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac. He received the promises and yet he was offering his one and only son,the one to whom it had been said, Your offspring will be traced through Isaac.He considered God to be able even to raise someone from the dead; therefore, he received him back, figuratively speaking.By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and he worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.By faith Joseph, as he was nearing the end of his life, mentioned the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions concerning his bones.By faith Moses, after he was born, was hidden by his parents for three months, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they didn’t fear the king’s edict.By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughterand chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin.For he considered reproach for the sake of Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, since he was looking ahead to the reward.By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king’s anger, for Moses persevered as one who sees him who is invisible.By faith he instituted the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch the Israelites.By faith they crossed the Red Sea as though they were on dry land. Other people were tortured, not accepting release, so that they might gain a better resurrection.Others experienced mockings and scourgings, as well as bonds and imprisonment.They were stoned, they were sawed in two, they died by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, destitute, afflicted, and mistreated.The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and on mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.

Who are these who fly like a cloud, like doves to their shelters?

because I have five brothers— to warn them, so that they won’t also come to this place of torment.’

Now many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of what the woman said when she testified,“ He told me everything I ever did.”

I was blameless toward him and kept myself from my iniquity.

You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud covering the land. It will happen in the last days, Gog, that I will bring you against my land so that the nations may know me, when I demonstrate my holiness through you in their sight.

Then he said to another,“ Follow me.”“ Lord,” he said,“ first let me go bury my father.”But he told him,“ Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and spread the news of the kingdom of God.”Another said,“ I will follow you, Lord, but first let me go and say good-bye to those at my house.”But Jesus said to him,“ No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

You, all of your troops, and many peoples with you will advance, coming like a thunderstorm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

( Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.)
