因著信，他在應許之地寄居，好像是在異鄉，與承受同樣應許的以撒、雅各一樣住在帳棚裡。

以信而旅於所許之地、如在異地、偕共承上帝所許之以撒雅各居於幕、

為旅於上帝許賜之地、猶在異邦、以撒雅各亦蒙上帝所許、與亞伯拉罕各居於幕、

彼有信而為旅於天主所許之地、如在異邦、居於幕、與後蒙應許之以撒雅各同、

復憑信德、而羇旅於承許之地、與共承恩諾之依灑格雅各伯同寓棚帳之中；

By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.

Because of his faith he made his home in the land God had promised him. Abraham was like an outsider in a strange country. He lived there in tents. So did Isaac and Jacob. They received the same promise he did.

By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.

And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith— for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise.

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

By faith he lived as a stranger in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise;

By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as[ in] a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

By faith he lived as a foreigner in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs of the same promise.

By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

後來他從那裡遷到伯特利東邊的山地，搭起帳棚。西邊是伯特利，東邊是艾城；他在那裡也為耶和華築了一座祭壇，呼求耶和華的名。

於是，亞伯蘭漸漸挪移帳棚，來到希伯崙幔利的橡樹附近，在那裡居住，也在那裡為耶和華築了一座祭壇。

他們問亞伯拉罕：“你的妻子撒拉在哪裡？”他回答：“在帳棚裡。”

照樣，神定意向那些承受應許的人，更清楚地表明他的旨意是不更改的，就用起誓作保證。

他從南地一站一站往前走，到伯特利去；到伯特利和艾城中間，就是他起先支搭帳棚的地方，

耶和華站在梯子上，說：“我是耶和華你祖父亞伯拉罕的神，也是以撒的神，我要把你現在躺著的這塊地賜給你和你的後裔。你的後裔必像地面的灰塵那麼多；你必向東、南、西、北擴展；地上的萬族必因你和你的後裔得福。

雅各對約瑟說：“全能的神曾經在迦南地的路斯向我顯現，賜福給我，對我說：‘我必使你繁衍增多，成為一大族；我必把這地賜給你的後裔，作永遠的產業。’

雅各來到基列．亞巴的幔利他父親以撒那裡，基列．亞巴就是希伯崙，是亞伯拉罕和以撒寄居過的地方。

在這裡神並沒有賜他產業，連立足之地也沒有。但神應許把這地賜給他和他的後裔為業，雖然那時他還沒有兒子。神就這樣說：‘你的後裔必在外地寄居，人要奴役、虐待他們四百年。’

亞伯拉罕趕快進帳棚，到撒拉那裡，說：“你快拿三斗細麵調和，作些餅。”

耶和華在幔利橡樹那裡，向亞伯拉罕顯現。那時，是一天中最熱的時候，亞伯拉罕正坐在帳棚門口；他舉目觀看，忽然看見三個人在他對面站著；亞伯拉罕看見了，就從帳棚門口跑去迎接他們，俯伏在地，

我要把你現在寄居的地，就是迦南全地，賜給你和你的後裔，作永遠的產業，我也要作他們的神。”

你要寄居在這地，我必與你同在，必賜福給你，因為我要把這全地都賜給你和你的後裔，履行我向你父親亞伯拉罕所起的誓。我必使你的後裔增多，好像天上的星那樣多；我必把這全地都賜給你的後裔；地上的萬國都必因你的後裔得福。

“我是在你們中間寄居的外族人，求你們在你們中間給我一塊墳地作產業，使我可以埋葬我死了的人，使她不露在我面前。”

願神把應許給亞伯拉罕的福，賜給你和你的後裔，使你可以得著你寄居的地為業，就是神賜給亞伯拉罕的。”

兩個孩子漸漸長大；以掃善於打獵，喜歡生活在田野；雅各為人安靜，常常住在帳棚裡。
