Abraham had faith. So he obeyed God. God called him to go to a place he would later receive as his own. So he went. He did it even though he didn’t know where he was going.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.

To this he replied:“ Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran.‘ Leave your country and your people,’ God said,‘ and go to the land I will show you.’“ So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said,“ To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says,“ Lord, who has believed our message?”

“ Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:“ To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.”

and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.If one of you says to them,“ Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?

For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”

He also said to him,“ I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”But Abram said,“ Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”

who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,

It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him he was only one man, and I blessed him and made him many.

But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan and gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,

Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”

But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance.

“ You are the Lord God, who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham.You found his heart faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites. You have kept your promise because you are righteous.

“‘ For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives,

and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him
