Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

Some were made fun of and even whipped. Some were held by chains. Some were put in prison.

Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons.

Others experienced mockings and scourgings, as well as bonds and imprisonment.

When he heard Jeremiah’s prophecy, he had the prophet flogged. Then he put him in the stocks which were at the Upper Gate of Benjamin in the LORD’s temple.

Joseph’s master took him and threw him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. So he was there in the prison.

Asa was so angry at the prophet, he put him in jail. Asa also oppressed some of the people at that time.

Now at that time, the armies of the king of Babylon were besieging Jerusalem. The prophet Jeremiah was confined in the courtyard of the guardhouse attached to the royal palace of Judah.For King Zedekiah had confined Jeremiah there after he had reproved him for prophesying as he did. He had asked Jeremiah,“ Why do you keep prophesying these things? Why do you keep saying that the LORD says,‘ I will hand this city over to the king of Babylon? I will let him capture it.

For no good reason my enemies hunted me down like a bird.They shut me up in a pit and threw stones at me.The waters closed over my head; I thought I was about to die.ק( Qof)I have called on your name, O LORD, from the deepest pit.

Say,‘ This is what the king says,“ Put this man in prison. Give him only a little bread and water until I safely return.”’”

The messengers journeyed from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh as far as Zebulun, but people mocked and ridiculed them.

The officials were very angry at Jeremiah. They had him flogged and put in prison in the house of Jonathan, the royal secretary, which they had converted into a place for confining prisoners.So Jeremiah was put in prison in a cell in the dungeon in Jonathan’s house. He was kept there for a long time.Then King Zedekiah had him brought to the palace. There he questioned him privately and asked him,“ Is there any message from the LORD?” Jeremiah answered,“ Yes, there is.” Then he announced,“ You will be handed over to the king of Babylon.”Then Jeremiah asked King Zedekiah,“ What crime have I committed against you, or the officials who serve you, or the people of Judah? What have I done to make you people throw me into prison?Where now are the prophets who prophesied to you that the king of Babylon would not attack you or this land?But now please listen, your royal Majesty, and grant my plea for mercy. Do not send me back to the house of Jonathan, the royal secretary. If you do, I will die there.”Then King Zedekiah ordered that Jeremiah be committed to the courtyard of the guardhouse. He also ordered that a loaf of bread be given to him every day from the baker’s street until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah was kept in the courtyard of the guardhouse.

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, and ridiculed his prophets. Finally the LORD got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment.

LORD, you coerced me into being a prophet, and I allowed you to do it. You overcame my resistance and prevailed over me. Now I have become a constant laughingstock. Everyone ridicules me.

Then the commanding officer came up and arrested him and ordered him to be tied up with two chains; he then asked who he was and what he had done.

Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. The devil is about to have some of you thrown into prison so you may be tested, and you will experience suffering for ten days. Remain faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown that is life itself.

for which I suffer hardship to the point of imprisonment as a criminal, but God’s message is not imprisoned!

Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, dressing him in elegant clothes, Herod sent him back to Pilate.

“ For this reason I am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,

They laid hands on the apostles and put them in a public jail.

Are they servants of Christ?( I am talking like I am out of my mind!) I am even more so: with much greater labors, with far more imprisonments, with more severe beatings, facing death many times.Five times I received from the Jews forty lashes less one.Three times I was beaten with a rod. Once I received a stoning. Three times I suffered shipwreck. A night and a day I spent adrift in the open sea.

Zedekiah son of Kenaanah approached, hit Micaiah on the jaw, and said,“ Which way did the LORD’s spirit go when he went from me to speak to you?”

So you go there the next time all the people of Judah come in from their towns to fast in the LORD’s temple. Read out loud where all of them can hear you what I told you the LORD said, which you wrote in the scroll.

So the officials took Jeremiah and put him in the cistern of Malkijah, one of the royal princes, that was in the courtyard of the guardhouse. There was no water in the cistern, only mud. So when they lowered Jeremiah into the cistern with ropes he sank in the mud.An Ethiopian, Ebed Melech, a court official in the royal palace, heard that Jeremiah had been put in the cistern. While the king was holding court at the Benjamin Gate,Ebed Melech departed the palace and went to speak to the king. He said to him,“ Your royal Majesty, those men have been very wicked in all that they have done to the prophet Jeremiah. They have thrown him into a cistern and he is sure to die of starvation there because there is no food left in the city.Then the king gave Ebed Melech the Ethiopian the following order:“ Take thirty men with you from here and go pull the prophet Jeremiah out of the cistern before he dies.”So Ebed Melech took the men with him and went to a room under the treasure room in the palace. He got some worn-out clothes and old rags from there and let them down by ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern.Ebed Melech called down to Jeremiah,“ Put these rags and worn-out clothes under your armpits to pad the ropes. Jeremiah did as Ebed Melech instructed.So they pulled Jeremiah up from the cistern with ropes. Jeremiah, however, still remained confined to the courtyard of the guardhouse.

So Jeremiah remained confined in the courtyard of the guardhouse until the day Jerusalem was captured. The following events occurred when Jerusalem was captured.

So they seized them and put them in jail until the next day( for it was already evening).

“ The LORD has made you priest in place of Jehoiada. He has put you in charge in the LORD’s temple of controlling any lunatic who pretends to be a prophet. And it is your duty to put any such person in the stocks with an iron collar around his neck.

For he will be handed over to the Gentiles; he will be mocked, mistreated, and spat on.

But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

He went up from there to Bethel. As he was traveling up the road, some young boys came out of the city and made fun of him, saying,“ Go on up, baldy! Go on up, baldy!”

and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged severely and crucified. Yet on the third day, he will be raised.”

and they summoned the apostles and had them beaten. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.

Then he released Barabbas for them. But after he had Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles–

For in fact you shared the sufferings of those in prison, and you accepted the confiscation of your belongings with joy, because you knew that you certainly had a better and lasting possession.

When he had seized him, he put him in prison, handing him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him. Herod planned to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.So Peter was kept in prison, but those in the church were earnestly praying to God for him.On that very night before Herod was going to bring him out for trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, while guards in front of the door were keeping watch over the prison.Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the prison cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up, saying,“ Get up quickly!” And the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.The angel said to him,“ Fasten your belt and put on your sandals.” Peter did so. Then the angel said to him,“ Put on your cloak and follow me.”Peter went out and followed him; he did not realize that what was happening through the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.After they had passed the first and second guards, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went outside and walked down one narrow street, when at once the angel left him.When Peter came to himself, he said,“ Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from everything the Jewish people were expecting to happen.”When Peter realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many people had gathered together and were praying.When he knocked at the door of the outer gate, a slave girl named Rhoda answered.When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she did not open the gate, but ran back in and told them that Peter was standing at the gate.But they said to her,“ You’ve lost your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was Peter, and they kept saying,“ It is his angel!”Now Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were greatly astonished.He motioned to them with his hand to be quiet and then related how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He said,“ Tell James and the brothers these things,” and then he left and went to another place.At daybreak there was great consternation among the soldiers over what had become of Peter.When Herod had searched for him and did not find him, he questioned the guards and commanded that they be led away to execution. Then Herod went down from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there.

They will mock him, spit on him, flog him severely, and kill him. Yet after three days, he will rise again.”

The crowd joined the attack against them, and the magistrates tore the clothes off Paul and Silas and ordered them to be beaten with rods.After they had beaten them severely, they threw them into prison and commanded the jailer to guard them securely.Receiving such orders, he threw them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the rest of the prisoners were listening to them.Suddenly a great earthquake occurred, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. Immediately all the doors flew open, and the bonds of all the prisoners came loose.When the jailer woke up and saw the doors of the prison standing open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, because he assumed the prisoners had escaped.But Paul called out loudly,“ Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!”Calling for lights, the jailer rushed in and fell down trembling at the feet of Paul and Silas.Then he brought them outside and asked,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They replied,“ Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him, along with all those who were in his house.At that hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and all his family were baptized right away.The jailer brought them into his house and set food before them, and he rejoiced greatly that he had come to believe in God, together with his entire household.At daybreak the magistrates sent their police officers, saying,“ Release those men.”The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying,“ The magistrates have sent orders to release you. So come out now and go in peace.”But Paul said to the police officers,“ They had us beaten in public without a proper trial– even though we are Roman citizens– and they threw us in prison. And now they want to send us away secretly? Absolutely not! They themselves must come and escort us out!”The police officers reported these words to the magistrates. They were frightened when they heard Paul and Silas were Roman citizensand came and apologized to them. After they brought them out, they asked them repeatedly to leave the city.When they came out of the prison, they entered Lydia’s house, and when they saw the brothers, they encouraged them and then departed.

I, therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live worthily of the calling with which you have been called,

May the Lord grant mercy to the family of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my imprisonment.

After two years had passed, Porcius Festus succeeded Felix, and because he wanted to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.

But Saul was trying to destroy the church; entering one house after another, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.

When they really started celebrating, they said,“ Call for Samson so he can entertain us!” So they summoned Samson from the prison and he entertained them. They made him stand between two pillars.

The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine,

He sent a man ahead of them– Joseph was sold as a servant.The shackles hurt his feet; his neck was placed in an iron collar,

Now it happened just as the LORD had said! My cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guardhouse. He said to me,‘ Buy my field which is at Anathoth in the territory of the tribe of Benjamin. Buy it for yourself since you are entitled as my closest relative to take possession of it for yourself.’ When this happened, I recognized that the LORD had indeed spoken to me.

Now the LORD had spoken to Jeremiah while he was still confined in the courtyard of the guardhouse,
