於是，摩西召了以色列的眾長老來，對他們說：「你們要為家人取羔羊，把逾越的羔羊宰了。要拿一把牛膝草，蘸盆裏的血，把盆裏的血塗在門楣上和兩邊的門框上。直到早晨你們誰也不可出自己家裏的門。因為耶和華要走遍埃及，施行擊殺，他看見血在門楣上和兩邊的門框上，耶和華就必逾越那門，不讓滅命者進你們的家，施行擊殺。你們要守這命令，作為你們和你們子孫永遠的定例。日後，你們到了耶和華所應許賜給你們的那地，就要守這禮儀。你們的兒女對你們說：『這禮儀是甚麼意思呢？』你們就說：『這是獻給耶和華逾越節的祭物。當耶和華擊殺埃及人的時候，他逾越了以色列人在埃及的房屋，救了我們各家。』」於是百姓低頭敬拜。以色列人就去做；他們照耶和華吩咐摩西和亞倫的去做了。到了半夜，耶和華把埃及地所有頭生的，就是從坐寶座的法老，到關在牢裏的人的長子，以及一切頭生的牲畜，盡都殺了。法老和他眾臣僕，以及所有的埃及人，都在夜間起來了。在埃及有大大的哀號，因為沒有一家不死人的。

你們要吩咐以色列全會眾說：本月初十，各人要按着家庭取羔羊，一家一隻羔羊。若一家的人太少，吃不了一隻羔羊，就要按照人數和隔壁的鄰舍共取一隻；你們要按每人的食量來估算羔羊。你們要從綿羊或山羊中取一隻無殘疾、一歲的公羔羊，要把牠留到本月十四日；那日黃昏的時候，以色列全會眾要把羔羊宰了。他們要取一些血，塗在他們吃羔羊的房屋兩邊的門框上和門楣上。當晚要吃羔羊的肉；要用火烤了，與無酵餅和苦菜一起吃。不可吃生的，或用水煮的，要把羔羊連頭帶腿和內臟用火烤了吃。一點也不可留到早晨；若有留到早晨的，要用火燒了。你們要這樣吃羔羊：腰間束帶，腳上穿鞋，手中拿杖，快快地吃。這是耶和華的逾越。因為那夜我要走遍埃及地，把埃及地一切頭生的，無論是人是牲畜，都擊殺了；我要對埃及所有的神明施行審判。我是耶和華。這血要在你們所住的房屋上作記號；我一見這血，就逾越你們。我擊打埃及地的時候，災殃必不臨到你們身上施行毀滅。」「你們要記念這日，世世代代守這日為耶和華的節日，作為你們永遠的定例。

因為摩西當日照着律法將各樣誡命傳給眾百姓，就拿朱紅色絨和牛膝草，把牛犢、山羊的血和水灑在書上，又灑在眾百姓身上，

並新約的中保耶穌，以及所灑的血；這血所說的信息比亞伯的血所說的更美。

就是照父上帝的預知，藉着聖靈得以成聖，以致順服耶穌基督，又蒙他血所灑的人。願恩惠、平安多多地賜給你們！
