So then you are no longer foreigners and noncitizens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household,

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who predicted the grace that would come to you searched and investigated carefully.They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.They were shown that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things angels long to catch a glimpse of.

He was fully convinced that what God promised he was also able to do.

Isaac said,“ Since I am so old, I could die at any time.Therefore, take your weapons– your quiver and your bow– and go out into the open fields and hunt down some wild game for me.Then prepare for me some tasty food, the kind I love, and bring it to me. Then I will eat it so that I may bless you before I die.”

Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul,

And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one’s work, live out the time of your temporary residence here in reverence.

Then Joseph said to his brothers,“ I am about to die. But God will surely come to you and lead you up from this land to the land he swore on oath to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

I am like a foreigner in this land. Do not hide your commands from me!

“ But who am I and who are my people, that we should be in a position to contribute this much? Indeed, everything comes from you, and we have simply given back to you what is yours.For we are resident foreigners and nomads in your presence, like all our ancestors; our days are like a shadow on the earth, without security.

When Jacob finished giving these instructions to his sons, he pulled his feet up onto the bed, breathed his last breath, and went to his people.

‘ I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not close at hand. A star will march forth out of Jacob, and a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the skulls of Moab, and the heads of all the sons of Sheth.

Isaiah said these things because he saw Christ’s glory, and spoke about him.

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; the nations will obey him.

These are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them when he blessed them. He gave each of them an appropriate blessing.
