Therefore when he comes into the world, he says,“ You didn’t desire sacrifice and offering, but you prepared a body for me.

“ Of what importance to me are your many sacrifices?” says the LORD.“ I am stuffed with burnt sacrifices of rams and the fat from steers. The blood of bulls, lambs, and goats I do not want.

For this reason the sovereign master himself will give you a confirming sign. Look, this young woman is about to conceive and will give birth to a son. You, young woman, will name him Immanuel.

Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. You make that quite clear to me! You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings.Then I say,“ Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me.I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts.”

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. By his wounds you were healed.

When he had contemplated this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,“ Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.She will give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled:“ Look! The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call him Emmanuel,” which means“ God with us.”

But when he again brings his firstborn into the world, he says,“ Let all the angels of God worship him!”

By his will we have been made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

“ Then I said,‘ Here I am: I have come– it is written of me in the scroll of the book– to do your will, O God.’”

Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory– the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.

Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, he likewise shared in their humanity, so that through death he could destroy the one who holds the power of death( that is, the devil),

I am not condemning you because of your sacrifices, or because of your burnt sacrifices that you continually offer me.I do not need to take a bull from your household or goats from your sheepfolds.For every wild animal in the forest belongs to me, as well as the cattle that graze on a thousand hills.I keep track of every bird in the hills, and the insects of the field are mine.Even if I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and all it contains belong to me.Do I eat the flesh of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?Present to God a thank-offering! Repay your vows to the sovereign One!Pray to me when you are in trouble! I will deliver you, and you will honor me!”God says this to the evildoer:“ How can you declare my commands, and talk about my covenant?For you hate instruction and reject my words.When you see a thief, you join him; you associate with men who are unfaithful to their wives.You do damage with words, and use your tongue to deceive.You plot against your brother; you slander your own brother.When you did these things, I was silent, so you thought I was exactly like you. But now I will condemn you and state my case against you!Carefully consider this, you who reject God! Otherwise I will rip you to shreds and no one will be able to rescue you.Whoever presents a thank-offering honors me. To whoever obeys my commands, I will reveal my power to deliver.”

But when the appropriate time had come, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

The angel replied,“ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called the Son of God.

And I will put hostility between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; her offspring will attack your head, and you will attack her offspring’s heel.”

“ I absolutely despise your festivals! I get no pleasure from your religious assemblies!Even if you offer me burnt and grain offerings, I will not be satisfied; I will not look with favor on your peace offerings of fattened calves.

How long will you vacillate, you who were once like an unfaithful daughter? For I, the LORD, promise to bring about something new on the earth, something as unique as a woman protecting a man!’”

And we all agree, our religion contains amazing revelation: He was revealed in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among Gentiles, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses Jesus as the Christ who has come in the flesh is from God,but every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, and this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and now is already in the world.

“ Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”

For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. So this one too had to have something to offer.

and sent them to Jesus to ask,“ Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”

I take no delight when they offer up to me frankincense that comes from Sheba or sweet-smelling cane imported from a faraway land. I cannot accept the burnt offerings they bring me. I get no pleasure from the sacrifices they offer to me.’
