You are under a curse— your whole nation— because you are robbing me.Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty,“ and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty.

“ You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty.“ Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house.

“ They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up.

You will sow much seed in the field but you will harvest little, because locusts will devour it.You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them.You will have olive trees throughout your country but you will not use the oil, because the olives will drop off.

The fields are ruined, the ground is dried up; the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the olive oil fails.Despair, you farmers, wail, you vine growers; grieve for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed.The vine is dried up and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree— all the trees of the field— are dried up. Surely the people’s joy is withered away.Put on sackcloth, you priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God; for the grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God.

You will eat but not be satisfied; your stomach will still be empty. You will store up but save nothing, because what you save I will give to the sword.You will plant but not harvest; you will press olives but not use the oil, you will crush grapes but not drink the wine.

The Lord Almighty declares,‘ I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.’”

If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name,” says the Lord Almighty,“ I will send a curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not resolved to honor me.

Before that time there were no wages for people or hire for animals. No one could go about their business safely because of their enemies, since I had turned everyone against their neighbor.

“ As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied,“ I don’t have any bread— only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it— and die.”

During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said,“ It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

In the midst of his plenty, distress will overtake him; the full force of misery will come upon him.

But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine.”

When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will be able to bake your bread in one oven, and they will dole out the bread by weight. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.

A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God’s wrath.

Your strength will be spent in vain, because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of your land yield their fruit.

A ten- acre vineyard will produce only a bath of wine; a homer of seed will yield only an ephah of grain.”

He then said to me:“ Son of man, I am about to cut off the food supply in Jerusalem. The people will eat rationed food in anxiety and drink rationed water in despair,for food and water will be scarce. They will be appalled at the sight of each other and will waste away because of their sin.

“ I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.“ I also withheld rain from you when the harvest was still three months away. I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another. One field had rain; another had none and dried up.People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.“ Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord.

and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there.

The ground is cracked because there is no rain in the land; the farmers are dismayed and cover their heads.
