耶和華說：你們要向列國中觀看，大大驚奇；因為在你們的時候，我行一件事，雖有人告訴你們，你們總是不信。我必興起迦勒底人，就是那殘忍暴躁之民，通行遍地，佔據那不屬自己的住處。他威武可畏，判斷和勢力都任意發出。他的馬比豹更快，比晚上的豺狼更猛。馬兵踴躍爭先，都從遠方而來；他們飛跑如鷹抓食，都為行強暴而來，定住臉面向前，將擄掠的人聚集，多如塵沙。他們譏誚君王，笑話首領，嗤笑一切保障，築壘攻取。他以自己的勢力為神，像風猛然掃過，顯為有罪。

神既是公義的，就必將患難報應那加患難給你們的人，也必使你們這受患難的人與我們同得平安。那時，主耶穌同他有能力的天使從天上在火焰中顯現，要報應那不認識神和那不聽從我主耶穌福音的人。他們要受刑罰，就是永遠沉淪，離開主的面和他權能的榮光。

我的百姓啊，你們要來進入內室，關上門，隱藏片時，等到忿怒過去。因為耶和華從他的居所出來，要刑罰地上居民的罪孽。地也必露出其中的血，不再掩蓋被殺的人。

耶和華對他說：「你去走遍耶路撒冷全城，那些因城中所行可憎之事歎息哀哭的人，畫記號在額上。」我耳中聽見他對其餘的人說：「要跟隨他走遍全城，以行擊殺。你們的眼不要顧惜，也不要可憐他們。要將年老的、年少的，並處女、嬰孩，和婦女，從聖所起全都殺盡，只是凡有記號的人不要挨近他。」於是他們從殿前的長老殺起。
