斯眾豈不以譬詞諷之、以隱語嘲之曰、禍哉其人、聚斂非己之財、擔負典質之重、伊於胡底、

斯眾必作歌以譏刺、曰、他人之財、充積爾家、質當之物、盡歸爾身、久而不償、禍必不遠、

斯眾必作嘲笑之歌以譏之、出諷刺之言以誚之、曰、禍哉爾歟、聚斂不屬己之財、何時為止、誠為己積累重大之孽債、

“ Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying,“‘ Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion! How long must this go on?’

“ Won’t those people laugh at the Babylonians? Won’t they make fun of them? They will say to them,“‘ How terrible it will be for you who pile up stolen goods! You get rich by cheating others. How long will this go on?’

Shall not all these take up their taunt against him, with scoffing and riddles for him, and say,“ Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own— for how long?— and loads himself with pledges!”

“ But soon their captives will taunt them. They will mock them, saying,‘ What sorrow awaits you thieves! Now you will get what you deserve! You’ve become rich by extortion, but how much longer can this go on?’

Won’t all of these take up a taunt against him, with mockery and riddles about him? They will say,“ Woe to him who amasses what is not his— how much longer?— and loads himself with goods taken in pledge.”

“ Will all of these not take up a song of ridicule against him, Even a saying and insinuations against him And say,‘ Woe to him who increases what is not his— For how long— And makes himself rich with debts!’

“ Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say,‘ Woe to him who increases What is not his— how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?

Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and that ladeth himself with pledges!

Won’t all of these take up a taunt against him, with mockery and riddles about him? They will say: Woe to him who amasses what is not his— how much longer?— and loads himself with goods taken in pledge.

Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth[ that which is] not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

“ But all these nations will someday taunt him and ridicule him with proverbial sayings:‘ The one who accumulates what does not belong to him is as good as dead( How long will this go on?)– he who gets rich by extortion!’

Won’t all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say,‘ Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’

In that day people will ridicule you; they will taunt you with this mournful song:‘ We are utterly ruined; my people’s possession is divided up. He takes it from me! He assigns our fields to traitors.’” (niv)

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. (niv)

Because of the Lord’s anger she will not be inhabited but will be completely desolate. All who pass Babylon will be appalled; they will scoff because of all her wounds. (niv)

He will spit out the riches he swallowed; God will make his stomach vomit them up.He will suck the poison of serpents; the fangs of an adder will kill him.He will not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and cream.What he toiled for he must give back uneaten; he will not enjoy the profit from his trading.For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; he has seized houses he did not build.“ Surely he will have no respite from his craving; he cannot save himself by his treasure.Nothing is left for him to devour; his prosperity will not endure.In the midst of his plenty, distress will overtake him; the full force of misery will come upon him.When he has filled his belly, God will vent his burning anger against him and rain down his blows on him.Though he flees from an iron weapon, a bronze-tipped arrow pierces him.He pulls it out of his back, the gleaming point out of his liver. Terrors will come over him;total darkness lies in wait for his treasures. A fire unfanned will consume him and devour what is left in his tent.The heavens will expose his guilt; the earth will rise up against him.A flood will carry off his house, rushing waters on the day of God’s wrath.Such is the fate God allots the wicked, the heritage appointed for them by God.” (niv)

you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has ended!The Lord has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression.All the lands are at rest and at peace; they break into singing.Even the junipers and the cedars of Lebanon gloat over you and say,“ Now that you have been laid low, no one comes to cut us down.”The realm of the dead below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you— all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones— all those who were kings over the nations.They will all respond, they will say to you,“ You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us.”All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you.How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!You said in your heart,“ I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit.Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate:“ Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble,the man who made the world a wilderness, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?”All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb.But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Then Balaam spoke his message:“ Balak brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains.‘ Come,’ he said,‘ curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel.’ (niv)

“ Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured us, he has thrown us into confusion, he has made us an empty jar. Like a serpent he has swallowed us and filled his stomach with our delicacies, and then has spewed us out.May the violence done to our flesh be on Babylon,” say the inhabitants of Zion.“ May our blood be on those who live in Babylonia,” says Jerusalem. Then he spoke his message:“ Arise, Balak, and listen; hear me, son of Zippor. (niv)

Because of them, all the exiles from Judah who are in Babylon will use this curse:‘ May the Lord treat you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned in the fire.’ (niv)

You demanded security from your relatives for no reason; you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.You gave no water to the weary and you withheld food from the hungry,though you were a powerful man, owning land— an honored man, living on it.And you sent widows away empty-handed and broke the strength of the fatherless.That is why snares are all around you, why sudden peril terrifies you, (niv)

How long, Lord, will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant? (niv)

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you.Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. (niv)

Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. (niv)

Such a person feeds on ashes; a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say,“ Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?” (niv)

One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and one who gives gifts to the rich— both come to poverty. (niv)

they all come intent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand.They mock kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; by building earthen ramps they capture them. (niv)

The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad. (niv)

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ (niv)

What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they do not;those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep;those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away. (niv)

Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing? (niv)

From within the realm of the dead the mighty leaders will say of Egypt and her allies,‘ They have come down and they lie with the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword.’ (niv)
