“ Will all of these not take up a song of ridicule against him, Even a saying and insinuations against him And say,‘ Woe to him who increases what is not his— For how long— And makes himself rich with debts!’

這些國的人豈不都要唱起象徵歌和諷刺謎語來嘲弄他說：『那增加不屬自己之利息物的、有禍啊！——要到幾時為止呢？——那多多取人的當頭以肥己的、有禍啊！』

斯眾豈不以譬詞諷之、以隱語嘲之曰、禍哉其人、聚斂非己之財、擔負典質之重、伊於胡底、

斯眾必作歌以譏刺、曰、他人之財、充積爾家、質當之物、盡歸爾身、久而不償、禍必不遠、

斯眾必作嘲笑之歌以譏之、出諷刺之言以誚之、曰、禍哉爾歟、聚斂不屬己之財、何時為止、誠為己積累重大之孽債、

“ Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying,“‘ Woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy by extortion! How long must this go on?’

“ Won’t those people laugh at the Babylonians? Won’t they make fun of them? They will say to them,“‘ How terrible it will be for you who pile up stolen goods! You get rich by cheating others. How long will this go on?’

Shall not all these take up their taunt against him, with scoffing and riddles for him, and say,“ Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own— for how long?— and loads himself with pledges!”

“ But soon their captives will taunt them. They will mock them, saying,‘ What sorrow awaits you thieves! Now you will get what you deserve! You’ve become rich by extortion, but how much longer can this go on?’

Won’t all of these take up a taunt against him, with mockery and riddles about him? They will say,“ Woe to him who amasses what is not his— how much longer?— and loads himself with goods taken in pledge.”

“ Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say,‘ Woe to him who increases What is not his— how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?

Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and that ladeth himself with pledges!

Won’t all of these take up a taunt against him, with mockery and riddles about him? They will say: Woe to him who amasses what is not his— how much longer?— and loads himself with goods taken in pledge.

Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth[ that which is] not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

“ But all these nations will someday taunt him and ridicule him with proverbial sayings:‘ The one who accumulates what does not belong to him is as good as dead( How long will this go on?)– he who gets rich by extortion!’

Won’t all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say,‘ Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’

On that day they will take up against you a song of mocking And utter a song of mourning and say,‘ We are completely destroyed! He exchanges the share of my people; How He removes it from me! To the apostate He apportions our fields.’

The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.

Because of the wrath of the Lord she will not be inhabited, But she will be completely desolate; Everyone who passes by Babylon will be horrified And will hiss because of all her wounds.

He swallows riches, But will vomit them up; God will expel them from his belly.He sucks the poison of cobras; The viper’s tongue kills him.He does not look at the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and curds.He returns the product of his labor And cannot swallow it; As to the riches of his trading, He cannot even enjoy them.For he has oppressed and neglected the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built.“ Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.In the fullness of his excess he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And rain it on him while he is eating.He may flee from the iron weapon, But the bronze bow will pierce him.It is drawn and comes out of his back, Even the flashing point from his gallbladder; Terrors come upon him,Complete darkness is held in reserve for his treasures, And unfanned fire will devour him; It will consume the survivor in his tent.The heavens will reveal his guilt, And the earth will rise up against him.The increase of his house will disappear; His possessions will flow away on the day of His anger.This is a wicked person’s portion from God, The inheritance decreed to him by God.”

that you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon, and say,“ How the oppressor has ceased, And how the onslaught has ceased!The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked, The scepter of rulers,Which used to strike the peoples in fury with unceasing strokes, Which subdued the nations in anger with unrestrained persecution.The whole earth is at rest and is quiet; They break forth into shouts of joy.Even the juniper trees rejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying,‘ Since you have been laid low, no tree cutter comes up against us.’Sheol below is excited about you, to meet you when you come; It stirs the spirits of the dead for you, all the leaders of the earth; It raises all the kings of the nations from their thrones.They will all respond and say to you,‘ Even you have become weak as we, You have become like us.Your pride and the music of your harps Have been brought down to Sheol; Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you And worms are your covering.’How you have fallen from heaven, You star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who defeated the nations!But you said in your heart,‘ I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’Nevertheless you will be brought down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.Those who see you will stare at you, They will closely examine you, saying,‘ Is this the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms,Who made the world like a wilderness And overthrew its cities, Who did not allow his prisoners to go home?’All the kings of the nations lie in glory, Each in his own tomb.But you have been hurled out of your tomb Like a rejected branch, Clothed with those killed who have been pierced with a sword, Who go down to the stones of the pit Like a trampled corpse.

And he took up his discourse and said,“ From Aram Balak has brought me, Moab’s king from the mountains of the East, saying,‘ Come, declare Jacob cursed for me, And come, curse Israel!’

“ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, He has set me down like an empty vessel; He has swallowed me like a monster, He has filled his stomach with my delicacies; He has washed me away.May the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon,” The inhabitant of Zion will say; And,“ May my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,” Jerusalem will say.

Then he took up his discourse and said,“ Arise, Balak, and hear; Listen to me, son of Zippor!

Because of them a curse will be used by all the exiles from Judah who are in Babylon, saying,‘ May the Lord make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,’

For you have seized pledges from your brothers without cause, And stripped people naked.You have given the weary no water to drink, And you have withheld bread from the hungry.But the earth belongs to the powerful man, And the one who is honorable dwells on it.You have sent widows away empty, And the strength of orphans has been crushed.Therefore traps surround you, And sudden dread terrifies you,

How long, Lord, shall the wicked— How long shall the wicked triumph?

Come now, you rich people, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth eaten.Your gold and your silver have corroded, and their corrosion will serve as a testimony against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of armies.

Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance.

He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has misled him. And he cannot save himself, nor say,“ Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

One who oppresses the poor to make more for himself, Or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.

All of them come for violence. Their horde of faces moves forward. They gather captives like sand.They make fun of kings, And dignitaries are an object of laughter to them. They laugh at every fortress, Then heap up dirt and capture it.

The Chaldeans bring all of them up with a hook, Drag them away with their net, And gather them together in their fishing net. Therefore they rejoice and are joyful.

But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your soul is demanded of you; and as for all that you have prepared, who will own it now?’

But this I say, brothers, the time has been shortened, so that from now on those who have wives should be as though they had none;and those who weep, as though they did not weep; and those who rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those who buy, as though they did not possess;and those who use the world, as though they did not make full use of it; for the present form of this world is passing away.

Is it not indeed from the Lord of armies That peoples labor merely for fire, And nations become weary for nothing?

The strong among the mighty ones shall speak of him and his helpers from the midst of Sheol:‘ They have gone down, they lie still, the uncircumcised, killed by the sword.’
