謂木曰寤、謂啞石曰起、其人禍哉、此物豈能垂訓乎、彼飾以金銀、而中無生氣、

木石不能言、有求其起而庇佑者、禍必不遠、維彼偶像、雖飾金銀、不通呼吸、焉能有應、

呼木偶曰、醒歟、呼不能言之石像曰、起歟、斯人禍矣、偶像豈能應應或作垂訓乎、俱飾以金銀者、其中無生氣、其中無生氣或作不通呼吸

Woe to him who says to wood,‘ Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone,‘ Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.”

How terrible it will be for the Babylonians! They say to a wooden god,‘ Come to life!’ They say to a stone god,‘ Wake up!’ Can those gods give advice? They are covered with gold and silver. They can’t even breathe.”

Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a silent stone, Arise! Can this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.

What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols,‘ Wake up and save us!’ To speechless stone images you say,‘ Rise up and teach us!’ Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.

Woe to him who says to wood: Wake up! or to mute stone: Come alive! Can it teach? Look! It may be plated with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.

Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.

Woe to him who says to the wood,‘ Awake!’ or to the mute stone,‘ Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.

有耳不能聽，口中毫無氣息。

以金銀作裝飾，用釘子和錘子釘牢，以免晃動。

他們取了公牛預備好，然後從早上到正午不斷地呼求：「巴力啊，求你應允我們！」可是毫無動靜。他們又繞著自己築的祭壇跳個不停。中午時分，以利亞譏諷他們說：「喊大聲一點，他肯定是神明！也許他在沉思冥想，也許太忙了，也許出遊了，也許睡著了，需要人叫醒他！」於是，他們更加大聲呼求，並按自己的教規用刀槍自割自刺，直到身體流血。他們不斷地狂呼亂叫，直到獻晚祭的時候，仍然毫無動靜，沒有半點反應。

偶像上的銀片來自他施，金片來自烏法，都是匠人的製品，這些偶像穿的藍色和紫色衣服是巧匠製作的。

他用另一半木頭造了一個神，一個偶像，向它俯伏叩拜、禱告說：「你是我的神明，求你拯救我。」

「看啊，時候將到，我必懲罰巴比倫的神像，使巴比倫全國蒙羞，屍橫遍野。

水手們非常害怕，紛紛呼求自己的神，又把船上的貨物全都拋進海裡，以減輕重量。這時候，約拿已下到底艙，躺在那裡呼呼大睡。

尼布甲尼撒王造了一尊高二十七米、寬二點七米的金像，立在巴比倫省的杜拉平原。

我們既然是上帝的子孫，就不該認為上帝是人憑手藝和想象用金、銀、石頭所雕刻的樣子。

人人愚昧無知，工匠都因自己鑄造的偶像而慚愧，因為這些神像全是假的，沒有氣息。

偶像是工匠製造的，銀匠替它包上金子、打造銀鏈。

願一切祭拜神像，以神像誇口的人都蒙羞。所有的神明啊，你們都要向耶和華下拜。

那婦人身穿紫色和朱紅色的袍子，用黃金、寶石及珍珠裝扮自己。她手中拿著金杯，裡面盛滿了她淫亂的污穢、可憎之物。

有些人從囊中取金子，又用天平稱銀子，雇銀匠製造神像，然後向它俯伏叩拜。

於是，各族、各邦、各語種的人一聽見角、笛、弦琴、豎琴、瑟等各種樂器的聲音，就都叩拜尼布甲尼撒王所立的金像。

即或不然，王啊，你要明白，我們也不會事奉你的神明或祭拜你立的金像。」

竟在天上的主面前自大，命人拿來祂殿裡的器皿，供你和大臣、王后、妃嬪用來飲酒，並頌讚不能看、不能聽、一無所知、用金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所造的神明，卻不尊崇賜你生命氣息、掌管你一舉一動的上帝。

現在我下令，不論何民、何邦、何族，若譭謗沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌的上帝，必被碎屍萬段，他們的家必淪為廢墟，因為沒有別的神明能這樣施行拯救。」
