列邦的財富都化為灰燼，列國勞碌卻是一場空。這不都是出於萬軍之耶和華嗎？

众民所劳碌得来的被火焚烧，列国由劳乏而得的归于虚空，不都是出于万军之耶和华吗？

看哪，这不都是出于万军之耶和华吗？万民劳碌得来的被火焚烧，万族辛苦建造的，归于虚空。

看哪，这不都是出于万军之耶和华吗？万民劳碌得来的被火焚烧，万族辛苦建造的，归于虚空。

列邦的财富都化为灰烬，列国劳碌却是一场空。这不都是出于万军之耶和华吗？

众民劳碌得来的，被火焚烧；列国辛劳而得的，终归无有。这不都出于万军之耶和华吗？

眾民所勞碌得來的被火焚燒，列國由勞乏而得的歸於虛空，不都是出於萬軍之耶和華嗎？

看哪，這不都是出於萬軍之耶和華嗎？萬民勞碌得來的被火焚燒，萬族辛苦建造的，歸於虛空。

看哪，這不都是出於萬軍之耶和華嗎？萬民勞碌得來的被火焚燒，萬族辛苦建造的，歸於虛空。

眾民勞碌得來的，被火焚燒；列國辛勞而得的，終歸無有。這不都出於萬軍之耶和華嗎？

看哪，萬族之民只為了給火焚燒而勞碌，列國之民只為了虛空而疲乏，不都是出於萬軍之永恆主麼？

諸民勞力乃為火、列邦辛苦歸於虛、此非由於萬軍之耶和華乎、

爾使列邦之民、屬役良苦、竭力築城、萬有之主耶和華、必使之焚燬殆盡、歸於烏有、

眾民辛苦經營、悉為火所焚、萬族劬勞疲憊、俱屬徒然、皆萬有之主所命、

Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?

I am the Lord who rules over all. Human effort is no better than wood that feeds a fire. So the nations wear themselves out for nothing.

Behold, is it not from the Lord of hosts that peoples labor merely for fire, and nations weary themselves for nothing?

Has not the Lord of Heaven’s Armies promised that the wealth of nations will turn to ashes? They work so hard, but all in vain!

Is it not from the LORD of Armies that the peoples labor only to fuel the fire and countries exhaust themselves for nothing?

Is it not indeed from the Lord of armies That peoples labor merely for fire, And nations become weary for nothing?

Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts That the peoples labor to feed the fire, And nations weary themselves in vain?

Behold, is it not of Jehovah of hosts that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

Is it not from the Lord of Hosts that the peoples labor only to fuel the fire and countries exhaust themselves for nothing?

Behold,[ is it] not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

Be sure of this! The LORD who commands armies has decreed: The nations’ efforts will go up in smoke; their exhausting work will be for nothing.

Behold, isn’t it of Yahweh of Armies that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

萬軍之耶和華說：「巴比倫寬闊的城牆要被夷為平地，高大的城門要被付之一炬，人們一切的辛勞都是徒然，列國勞碌的成果都化為灰燼。」

然而，你們自己生火、自備火把的人啊，靠自己點燃的火光行走吧！你們必落入悲慘的境地，這是耶和華親手所定的。

任何智慧、悟性和謀略，都不能對抗耶和華。

祂使智者中了自己的詭計，使奸徒的計謀迅速落空。他們白天遇到黑暗，午間摸索如在夜晚。

耶和華說：「看啊，他們同屬一個民族，都用同一種語言，現在就做這樣的事，如果繼續下去，他們會為所欲為。讓我們下去變亂他們的語言，使他們彼此言語不通。」於是，耶和華把他們從那裡分散到世界各地，他們便不再建造那城了。因此，人稱那城為巴別，因為耶和華在那裡變亂了人類的語言，把他們分散到世界各地。

若不是耶和華建造房屋，建造者的工作都是徒勞。若不是耶和華保護城池，守城者保持警覺也是徒然。你早起晚睡，為生活操勞也是徒然，唯有耶和華所愛的人才能安眠。

也許以掃的後代以東人會說：「我們現在雖然被毀，但我們要重建毀壞之處。」萬軍之耶和華卻這樣說：「他們儘管建造，但我必拆毀。他們的土地要被稱為『罪惡之地』，他們要被稱為『耶和華永遠惱怒之民。』」

你們為什麼花錢買不能充饑的食物？為什麼拿辛苦賺來的錢買不能令人飽足的東西？要留心聽我的話，就可以吃美物，享受豐盛的佳餚。

「眾海島看見我的作為就害怕，地極也顫抖，他們都上前來，彼此幫助，互相勉勵說，『要剛強！』工匠鼓勵銀匠，打磨的勉勵打砧的，說，『打得好！』他們用釘子把偶像釘牢，免得搖晃。「然而，以色列啊，你是我的僕人；雅各啊，你是我揀選的，是我朋友亞伯拉罕的後裔。

人生不過是幻影，勞碌奔波卻一場空，積蓄財富卻不知誰來享用。

有人告訴大衛，亞希多弗也叛變，投奔了押沙龍，大衛就禱告說：「耶和華啊，求你使亞希多弗的謀算都變得愚不可及。」

然後說，『耶和華降的災禍必使巴比倫像這卷軸一樣沉沒、永不復興，巴比倫人必滅亡。』」耶利米的話到此為止。
