Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

爾目清潔、不視邪惡、不觀橫逆、爾何顧諟行詐者乎、惡人吞噬義於己者、爾何緘默乎、

爾品至聖、惡者爾所不喜、暴者爾所不悅、今人強據我有、何爾反佑之、惡者害義、何爾默不一言乎。

主目至潔、不欲觀妄為、不欲視惡行、今人作罪、作罪或作行欺詐之事主何為徒觀、惡人害較己尤義者、主何為默然不言乎、

Your eyes are too pure to look at what is evil. You can’t put up with the wrong things people do. So why do you put up with those who can’t be trusted? The evil Babylonians swallow up those who are more godly than themselves. So why are you silent?

You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?

But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil. Will you wink at their treachery? Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they?

You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours A person more righteous than he?

Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;

[ Thou art] of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously,[ and] holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth[ the man that is] more righteous than he?

You are too just to tolerate evil; you are unable to condone wrongdoing. So why do you put up with such treacherous people? Why do you say nothing when the wicked devour those more righteous than they are?

You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth.

You are always righteous, Lord, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts.

After all this, Lord, will you hold yourself back? Will you keep silent and punish us beyond measure?

Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Break the arm of the wicked man; call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out.

This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

The Lord will repay him for the blood he shed, because without my father David knowing it he attacked two men and killed them with the sword. Both of them— Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army— were better men and more upright than he.

The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.

Lord, you have seen this; do not be silent. Do not be far from me, Lord.

The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, intent on putting them to death;but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked or let them be condemned when brought to trial.

For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you.

If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes,

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.

For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome.The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong;

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.

Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.

A dire vision has been shown to me: The traitor betrays, the looter takes loot. Elam, attack! Media, lay siege! I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.

How much more— when wicked men have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed— should I not now demand his blood from your hand and rid the earth of you!”

O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.

Woe to you, destroyer, you who have not been destroyed! Woe to you, betrayer, you who have not been betrayed! When you stop destroying, you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying, you will be betrayed.

Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack.My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me.

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;for it is written:“ Be holy, because I am holy.”
