非利士人跟以色列人又有戰事；大衛和僕人一同下去，跟非利士人交戰；大衛覺得疲乏無力，就去住在歌伯。那裏有一個人是高身漢的孩子；他的槍重有三百舍客勒，是銅的；他又束佩着新刀，說是要擊殺大衛的。但是洗魯雅的兒子亞比篩幫助了大衛，擊打那非利士人，將他殺死。當日跟隨大衛的人向大衛起誓說：『以後你不要再和我們一同出戰了，恐怕你使以色列的燈熄滅了。』此後在歌伯、以色列人同非利士人又有戰事；那時戶沙人西比該擊殺了高身漢的一個孩子撒弗。在歌伯、同非利士人又有戰事；伯利恆人睚珥的兒子伊勒哈難擊殺了迦特人歌利亞；這人的槍杆像織布者的機軸一樣。在迦特又有戰事；那裏有一個身量高大的人，他的手指和腳趾都是六支六支的，總數是二十四支；他也是高身漢所生的。這人向以色列人罵陣，大衛的哥哥示米亞的兒子約拿單擊殺了他。這四個人是在迦特的高身漢所生的；是在大衛手下或大衛僕人手下倒斃的。

利乏音人所遺留的人只剩下巴珊王噩；看哪，他的棺材是個黑礦石頭的棺材；長九肘，寬四肘；按人肘的尺寸；現今豈不是在亞捫人的拉巴麼？）

從非利士營中出來了一個挑戰的人、名叫歌利亞，是迦特人，身高六肘零一虎口。

那地也算為利乏音人之地；先前利乏音人住在那裏，但亞捫人卻稱他們為散送冥人。這族之民又大、又多、又高、像亞衲人一樣；永恆主從亞捫人面前消滅他們，把他們趕出，亞捫人便接替他們住在那裏；

跟以色列人中二百五十個人、就是會眾的首領、會中被選有名望的人、在摩西面前一同起來。

便說：『來吧，我們建造一座城和一座塔；塔頂通天，我們須要為自己立名，免得分散在全地上。』
